Business & Community Alignment
An advisory committee was established with a focus on
identifying industry training needs to:
1. help TCCD document the need for a workforce
education program and
2. ensure the program has adequate resources and
a well-designed marketable skills curriculum for
students to enter or re-enter the workforce

An advisory committee:
• evaluates goals and objectives of the program
curriculum
• establishes workplace competencies for the
program occupation(s)
• suggests program revisions as needed
• evaluates the adequacy of the existing college
facilities and equipment

• identifies local business and industry leaders to
provide students with external experiences,
placement opportunities, and employment
• assist in faculty professional development
• assist to publicize and promote the program to the
community, businesses, industries, and
• represent the students’ needs from special
populations: unemployed, underemployed and

Retention & Recruitment Strategies
Retention includes:
1. program coordinator meets with students
periodically to follow-up on their progress and
guide them through the next steps
2. an internship component of the curriculum to
provide an opportunity for students to apply the
knowledge and skills learned in a real-life setting
