Lesson 94

Probability of Dependent Events
LESSON 94
Independent Events
The probability of an event occurring is not dependent on
other events.
◦ Ex. Tossing a coin and spinning a spinner
Dependent Events
The probability of one event depends on the other event.
◦ Ex. Drawing a marble from a bag and not replacing it, affects the
probability of the next draw.
Practice Problems
In a bag are two red marbles, three white marbles, and four
blue marbles. If one marble is drawn from the bag and not
replaced and then a second marble is drawn from the bag,
what is the probability of drawing two blue marbles?
Practice Problems
If two cards are drawn from a regular shuffled deck, what is
the probability that both cards will be diamonds?
Practice
A bag contains two white marbles and three blue marbles. If
two marbles are selected, what is the probability of
selecting two blue marbles if the marbles are selected a.
with replacement and b. without replacement?
