INTRODUCTION
The Haskayne School of Business Student Endowment Fund was established with funds collected by the
Students’ Union through a Haskayne School of Business student levy between 2001 and 2005. The Haskayne
School of Business Student Levy Committee (HSLC) was established by the Students’ Legislative Council to
allocate funding to student-led initiatives related to student research and scholarship, teaching enhancements,
and student activities.
The HSLC allocates available funds to innovative undergraduate student-led initiatives, projects, activities and
events in the Haskayne School of Business that:
a) Enhance student life on campus;
b) Provide research-based, experiential learning opportunities; or
c) Enhance leadership potential.
The committee makes funding decisions in the interest of increasing access and affordability for undergraduate
students.
ELIGIBILITY & APPLYI NG FOR FUNDING
Current undergraduate students enrolled in a major or minor program in the Haskayne School of Business are
eligible to receive funding once per University of Calgary fiscal year, April 1 to March 31.
Students are eligible to receive 75% of requested funds, to a maximum of $1000. The Committee may approve
funding to a maximum of $1,500 for international initiatives.
The HSLC accepts applications for funding year-round and makes allocation decisions according to the
following funding cycle:

INFORMATION FOR APPL ICANTS
1. Applications are reviewed for completeness and eligibility. Incomplete and ineligible applications will
not be considered.
2. The Committee may restrict the amount of funding available in each funding period to ensure funding
availability throughout the year.
3. Selected applications may not receive the full amount of funding requested. The committee may adjust
funding to provide opportunity for more applications to receive funding.
4. Funding recipients will be reimbursed for their expenses upon fulfilling reporting requirements and
submitting proof of expenses. The committee will not allocate funds retroactively for initiatives, projects,
activities or events that have already passed.

FUNDING CRITERIA – ELIGIBLE EXPENSES
Eligible initiatives, projects, events, and activities must:
1. Enhance student life at the University of Calgary;
2. Provide research-based, experiential learning opportunities; or
3. Enhance undergraduate students’ leadership potential.
Eligible expenses may include but are not limited to:
 Conference registration fees;
 Case competition entry fees;
 Workshop fees;
 Travel and accommodation expenses1;
 The cost of meals2;
 Event cost of admission;
 Space rentals;
 Equipment or supply rentals;
 Supervised, non-credit, unpaid research or fieldwork;
 Innovative components of new or existing events; and
 Non-credit co-curricular learning opportunities.

Reimbursement for hotel accommodation is normally limited to standard hotel room rates. Applicants are encouraged to
stay where there are discount rates wherever possible.
2 At its discretion, the committee may consider the cost of meals for individuals traveling for conferences or similar
activities to be an eligible expense. Where the committee approves funding for meal related expenses, the cost of meals
may be claimed according to the University of Calgary Travel Expense Procedures.
Events hosted by students or student groups must be approved by the Haskayne School of Business to be
considered eligible for funding.
EXCLUSIONS
The following applications are NOT eligible for funding:
 Initiatives, projects, events, and activities that are part of an academic credit program, including co-ops
and internships;
 Initiatives, projects, events, and activities that expect to or are likely to generate a profit; and
 Applicants who are receiving any wage or honorarium for their attendance or participation in an
initiative, project, event, or activity.
The following expenses are NOT eligible for funding:
 Staffing costs;
 Event related or group food and beverage costs;
 Alcohol
 Capital costs;
 Recurring events or initiatives held by the same student(s) or student group;
 The purchase of supplies and equipment that will become the property of the applicant; and
 Other expenses that are not allowed under the University of Calgary Travel Expense Procedure3.
Please note: Initiatives, projects, events, and activities hosted by student groups that have previously received
HSLC funding may not be considered eligible for funding unless the application demonstrates an innovative or
unique component that meets the funding criteria.4
REQUIREMENTS OF FUNDING RECIPIENT S
Prior to receiving funding, successful recipients are required to provide the committee with:
1. Proof of expenses (e.g. receipts);
2. An updated statement of budgeted and actual expenditures; and
3. A written report detailing:
a. The initiative, project, event, or activity name, date and location;
b. The aspect of the initiative, project, event, or activity funded;
c. A description of the recipient’s participation;
d. A reflection on how the initiative, project, event, or activity related to the funding criteria; and
e. Photos of the recipient’s participation in the initiative, project, event, or activity.

expenses and the amount of funding that may be awarded
