LETTER TO PARENTS Welcome to Children’s Faith Formation for 2015-16. The purpose of this
letter is to let you know about children’s programs at St. Brendan.
DISCIPLES CLUB—October through May, most Wednesdays
Disciples Club is St. Brendan’s main program of Faith Formation for children. We strongly urge
parents to bring their children to Disciples Club from First through Fifth grades. Even after they have
received their First Communion, there is much to learn about faithful discipleship.
Location & Schedule: Narthex and all Church areas including the Nave. We begin and end
every session in the Narthex, 6:00-7:30, most Wednesdays (see calendar below).
Calendar: October 7, 14, 21, 28, November 4, 18, December 2, 9, 16, 23 Christmas
party, January 6, 13, 20, 27, February 3, 17, 24, March 2, 9, 16, April 6, 13, 20, 27,
May 4, 11
Age: First through fifth grade
Cost: $50 for the year
Registration: Forms available on St. Brendan’s website, from church office, or from Andrea
King.
Moving forward: After 5th grade, children begin to attend youth programs.
SACRAMENTAL PREPARATION—5 Wednesdays in December & January, 5 Wednesdays in April &
May
Children prepare for First Reconciliation and First Eucharist. A child must have completed a full year
of Faith Formation either in Disciples Club (previously Pathways) OR St. Brendan Catholic School
before beginning preparation. Also, the child must be attending either Disciples Club OR St. Brendan
Catholic School during the year of preparation. We strongly urge parents to teach their child the Our
Father, Hail Mary, and Act of Contrition before the program begins in December.
Location & Schedule: All sessions are in the Nave, 6:00-7:30 on Wednesdays (see calendars
below).
Calendar for First Reconciliation: December 2, 9, January 6, 13, 20, First
Reconciliation from 10:00- Noon on January 23.
Calendar for First Eucharist: April 13, 20, 27, May 4, 11, First Eucharist at every Mass
on May 14 and 15.
Age: Minimum age 2nd grade, older children are welcome
Cost: $75 for the year
Registration: Forms available on St. Brendan’s website, from church office, or from Andrea
King.
Moving forward: After First Communion, faith formation continues with Disciples Club or St.
Brendan Catholic School.
NURSERY—all year long
Nursery is provided during the 8:00 and 10:00 a.m. Masses. Pat Vixie is the nursery teacher.
Location: Nursery is close to the library, close to the narthex drinking fountain
Age: baby until third birthday
Cost: no fee
Registration: forms available in the nursery
Moving forward: After your child turns three, he/she joins Little Disciples on Sundays at
10:00.
LITTLE DISCIPLES—all year long
Little Disciples is provided by parents and other catechists during the 10:00 a.m. Mass. It is a chance
for children to learn stories from the Bible and to meet other children.
Location: Little tables and chairs in the Narthex. (Children are dismissed after the Collect and
return to the Mass after the Sermon.)
Age: Three through Kindergarten
Cost: no fee
Registration: Please provide your phone and email for parent communication
Moving forward: After your child completes Kindergarten, he/she may join Children’s Liturgy
of the Word on Sundays at 10:00.
CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD (CLOW)—all year long
Children’s Liturgy of the Word is provided by parents and other catechists during the 10:00 a.m.
Mass. It is a chance for elementary aged children to hear the scriptures that are being proclaimed
during the Mass, and to reflect on these scriptures, especially the Gospel reading.
Location: Library is near the narthex. (Children are dismissed after the Collect and return to
the Mass after the Sermon.)
Age: First through fifth grade
Cost: no fee
