Dear Sir/Madam
Planning consultation: Main Modifications - Nottinghamshire Aligned Core Strategy
Thank you for your consultation on the above document which was received by Natural England on
17 March 2014
Natural England is a non-departmental public body. Our statutory purpose is to ensure that the
natural environment is conserved, enhanced, and managed for the benefit of present and future
generations, thereby contributing to sustainable development.
We note that the main modifications are relevant to the three local authorities (Broxtowe; Gedling &
Nottingham City) we will therefore copy this response to each of the above email addresses.
Natural England’s has comments on the following modifications:
Modification 9 – New Strategic Allocation at Teal Close, Netherfield
Natural England supports the provision of Green Infrastructure within this site including the provision
of 10ha immediately adjacent to the Netherfield Lagoons Local Nature Reserve and Local Wildlife
Site. This provision should provide a protective buffer area to the Local Nature Reserve and will
provide opportunities to link to the wider ecological and Green Infrastructure networks. We therefore
consider this modification is in compliance with paragraph 109 of the National Planning Policy
Framework.
We therefore consider the plan to be legally compliant and sound.
Modification 32 – Policy 17: Biodiversity
Natural England supports this modification as we consider the proposed changes give greater clarity
to Policy 17:Biodiversity and more closely follows the guidance set out in the National Planning
Policy Framework.
We therefore consider the plan to be legally compliant and sound.
Habitats Regulations Assessment
We concur with the Local Authorities conclusions that the proposed Main Modifications to the
Aligned Core Strategies Publication Version will not result in any additional effects which will
impact on the prospective Sherwood Special Protection Area.
We therefore consider the plan to be legally compliant and sound.
