What did you do today? There is much you can do as a parent to assist your children with their learning. Encourage your child to hold a pencil and write their name. Practise counting everything! (How many chips do you have on your plate?) Practise recognising and writing numbers and letters. (This will help to further develop their learning in school.) Practise using scissors correctly. Encourage your child to talk about their school day. Encourage your child to do tasks independently. (Getting dressed and undressed) Please tell us about achievements at home – every step of your child’s development is important! Useful websites for fun activities include: www.bbc.co.uk/schools www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk http://primarygamesarena.com In Reception we use The Early Years Foundation Stage Statuary Framework. This framework is organised into three prime areas and four specific areas. The prime areas (PA) are fundamental as they support the development in all other areas. Equally, the specific areas (SA) give children the essential skills to prepare them for later schooling and society. Learning through play and exploration is very important in Reception. Through play your child will be encouraged to learn new skills and build upon those they have already acquired. We also adapt our topic focus to ensure that both teaching and learning are relevant and appropriate to all children. With this in mind, the curriculum overview is a guide and may change according to the children’s needs and interests.
