ACS-2814 Assignment 1 DUE: Sunday Jan 22, 2017 Create a database to keep track of teams, players, and the games they play. Each table must have a primary key, relationships between tables must be defined, and relationships must enforce referential integrity. There are three tables: Team, Player, Game. An Excel spreadsheet, A1.xls, has data for an initial load. Importing data into an Access database is discussed in class. Each team has a name, has a coach and location, and has several players. Team name is the primary key. Players are identified by the team they play for, and their jersey number. For each player we must keep track of their name, jersey, position, shot, height in feet and inches, weight, date of birth, and where they were born. The primary key is composite, composed of team name and jersey number. There are several games where each game involves exactly two teams: one team is designated the home team and the other is the visiting team. Each game has a game ID (primary key) and we know when the game is played and, where possible, the scores for each team (home score, visitor score). Choose datatypes that are most appropriate for each field. For instance names must be text, dates must be date/time and scores must be numeric (integer with 0 decimal places). Include validation rules and text for scores; scores must be greater than or equal to zero. All fields are required fields – except for scores since those are not known until a game is played. Addition/Correction: Shot is also not required as there is no value for goalies. Create relationships: 1. A team has many players / a player belongs to one team 2. A game has one home team / a team may be the home team in many games 3. A game has one visiting team / a team may be the visiting team in many games Add some data manually: Make yourself a player on the Edmonton Oilers. Give yourself the jersey number 33. Add scores for games that have been played prior to the submission date of your assignment. Design two Queries: Query1: List all players (name, height, weight) on the Jets team in order by height. Where players are of the same height they must be ordered by weight. Query2: List the location of the visiting team for games where the Jets are the home team and where the Jets have won the game. Submit your assignment via email to your lab demonstrator. Include the subject Assignment 1 and attach your MS Access database.
