tousecommonsense,fairnessandthe“SpiritoftheGame”inproviding
interpretationsonthepoliciesandprocedurescontainedwithinthehandbook
INCLUSION
IntramuralSportsvaluesdiversityandseekstocreateasafeandfunenvironmentthatis
accessibletotheChicoStateCommunity.IntramuralSportsiscommittedtomaintainingan
environmentwithoutdiscriminationastorace,religion,nationalorigin,gender
identity/expressionorsexualorientation.
PARTICIPATION
Participationislimitedtocurrentlyenrolled,full-timeChicoStatestudents.Faculty/Staff,and
OpenUniversityStudentsmustcontacttheIntramuralOfficeinordertoseekapprovalfor
participationinIntramuralSports.
A. GreekorganizationsingoodstandingwiththeUniversity,FraternityandSororityAffairsand
withtheirrespectivenationaloffices.AllGreekteamparticipantsmustbecurrentmembers
oftheirorganization.Currentvarsity,redshirt,anddismissedplayersarenoteligibleto
participateinintramuralsportsintheirrespectivesport.
B. Anindividualisconsideredavarsitystudentathletewhenhe/sheislistedinanyofthese
criteria:1.)Onthefinalcoach'srosterafterthefirstdateofcompetition,2.)hasreceivedan
athleticscholarship,3.)hascompetedInthatsportduringtheacademicyear,4.)is"redshirting"inthesport.
C. ExvarsityathletesmayparticipateinIntramuralSportsintheirrespectivesportprovided
onesemesterhaselapsedsincetheirstatusasavarsitystudentathletehasended.There
shallbemorethantwoexvarsityathletesonanindividualteamroster.Teamswithex
varsityathletesmustcompeteinthemostcompetitivedivision.Anyplayerorteamthat
doesnotadheretotheseguidelinesmayresultinsuspensionofparticipanteligibilityand
forfeitureofanygameinwhichtheyparticipated.
D. Amemberofasportclubisdefinedasastudentwhoparticipatedorpracticedwithaclub
duringthecurrentacademicyear.Intramuralteamsarelimitedto3clubplayersperteam
intheirspecificsportoranyrelatedsportandtheymustplayinthemostcompetitive
league.Anyplayerorteamthatdoesnotadheretotheseguidelinesmayresultin
suspensionofparticipanteligibilityandforfeitureofanygameinwhichtheyparticipated.

ACCIDENTINSURANCE
TheStateofCaliforniaandCaliforniaStateUniversity,Chicocannotandwillnotacceptliability
forinjurywhileparticipatinginaRecreationalSportsactivity.Participantsareencouragedto
providetheirownaccidentinsurancecoverage.AccidentinsuranceisavailableattheStudent
HealthCenter.
CONCUSSIONMANAGEMENT
Anyparticipantshowinganysignsandsymptomsofaconcussionshallnotreturntotheactivity
fortheremainderoftheday.Participantswillbeprovidedwithwrittenhomeinstructions.
Priortoreturningtoplayaparticipantmustfirstreceivemedicalclearancebyastudenthealth
physician.Ifaparticipantsustainsaconcussionoutsideofintramuralplaybut,while
participatinginanintramuralactivitytheyaresuspectedandthenremovedfromforexhibiting
signsofaconcussion,theywillstillneedtoreceiveclearancebyastudenthealthphysician
priortoreturningtoplay.
ALCOHOLANDTOBACCO
CaliforniaStateUniversity,Chicoprohibitsthepossessionorconsumptionofalcoholat
university-sponsoredeventsheldonuniversityproperty.Possessionorconsumptionofalcohol
orillegaldrugsisprohibitedatanyrecreationalfacilityorprogramatalltimes.
Additionally,ifRecreationalSportsStaffsuspectsanyindividualofbeingundertheinfluence,
thatpersonwillnotbeallowedtoparticipateandwillbeaskedtoleavethefacility.Eachteam
isresponsibleforenforcingthispolicywithteammembersandspectators.Violatorsarealso
subjecttodisciplinaryactioninaccordancewithUniversitypolicy.
Theuseoftobacco/smokelesstobaccoduringanyIntramuralSportsactivityisstrictly
prohibited.
CONDUCTOFPARTICIPANTSANDSPECTATORS
TheCSU,ChicoStudentCodeofConductaswellastherulesstatedbelow,willgovernall
Intramuralplay.Dependinguponseverityoftheincidentasuspensioncanrangefrombeing
placedonintramuraldisciplinaryprobationtoalifetimesuspension.Allincidentswillbejudged
ona“casebycase”basisandthoseincidentsdeemedmajorviolationswillbeforwardedonto
StudentJudicialAffairs.PleasenotethatasuspensionoractiontakenbyIntramuralsportscan
alsoaffectanindividual’saccesstotheWREC.
UnsportsmanlikeBehaviorincludes,butisnotlimitedtothefollowing:
A. Fighting(pushing,punching,tripping,latehits,cheapshots,oranytypeofphysicalcontact
deemedunnecessaryand/oroverlyaggressive)
B. Usingprofane,inappropriate,insulting,orvulgarlanguageorgestures-incidentalor
otherwise
C. Verbalorphysicalbaitingortauntinganopponent,including"trashtalking"inanymanner
D. AttemptingtoinfluenceanIntramuralStaffmember'sdecision
E. OpenlydisrespectinganIntramuralStaffmember’sdecision.
F. PhysicalcontactwithIntramuralStaff

G. FailuretofollowthedirectionsofanyIntramuralStaffmemberactinginperformanceof
theirduties
H. Physicallydamagingafacility,equipment,orotherprovidedIntramuralapparatus(example

J. Engaginginanygeneralunsportsmanlikeact,especiallythosethatshowdisregardfor

Section4.
Dismissal
Intheeventaparticipantisejectedfromagame.Theejectedplayermaybeaskedtoleavethe
facilitywithintwominutesorriskforfeitingthegameforhis/herteam.
1. Beforeaparticipantispermittedtoparticipateagaintheymustmakeanappointment
withtheDirectorofIntramuralSportstoreviewthesituation.
2. Ifaplayerisdismissedmultipletimesfromaleaguetheywillberemovedfromthe
leagueanddisqualifiedfromparticipatinginanyIntramuralActivityforasetperiodof
time.
APPEALS
Aparticipantorteammayappealasuspensionand/orpenaltytotheWRECAdvisoryCouncil.
Thiscouncilwillhearandreviewallrelevantinformationandmakearecommendationto
adjust,eliminate,oraddtothesanctionsalreadyinplace.Inordertohaveacaseheardin
frontoftheWRECAdvisoryCouncilawrittenappealmustbesubmittedtotheAssistant
DirectorofRecreationalSportsnolaterthan48hoursafternotification.
ROLEOFTEAMCAPTAIN
Intramuralteamcaptainsarethecommunicationlinkbetweentheirteamandourprogram.All
team/fanrelatedmatterswillbedirectedtothem.Thedutiesoftheteamcaptainareas
follows:
A. Handleallcaptains’meetings.ActasliaisonbetweenteamandIntramuralSportsProgram,
andpassonallpertinentinformationtotheteam.
B. Toseethattheon-linerostersarekeptup-to-date.Alsoverifyteamstandings(i.e.,
wins/losses)foraccuracy.
C. Toseethatteamsareenteredinthedesiredsportsbytheentrydeadline.
D. Tobefamiliarwiththerulesofthesport,rulesofeligibilityandensurethatallteam
membersareeligibleforeverygame.
E. Torepresent,ordelegatearepresentative,inallnegotiationsorprotests.
F. Tonotifytheirteammembersregardingplace,dateandtimeofgames.

availablebycallingtheWRECFrontDesk.
G. Toseethattheirteamsdonotforfeitcontests.
H. Tokeepinformedofallrulesincludingrulesofplayandeligibility,protests,forfeits,and

TEAMROSTERMANAGEMENT
Section1.
PlayerRegistration
OnlythosestudentslistedontheofficialIntramuralrosterorteameligibilitylistareeligibleto
participate.Noadditionstoteamrostersmaybemadeaftertherosterdeadlinedateforthat
particularsport,unlesspermittedbyIntramuralSports.Priortoeachgame,atthepointofplay,
playersmustprovideacurrentuniversityID,orotherformofphotoIDinordertoparticipate.
Section2.
IneligiblePlayers
Anyteamorindividualusinganineligibleplayerwillautomaticallyforfeitallgamesormatches
inwhichtheindividualparticipatesasanineligibleplayer.Theineligiblepersonwillbebarred
fromfurthercompetitioninthatactivityforthatseason.
Section3.
TransferRule
Aplayerhavingenteredacontestwithagiventeamshallnottransfertoanotherteaminthat
particularactivitythroughouttheseason,unlesstheteamdisbands.Afterpetitioning
IntramuralSports,theplayercouldbeeligibletoplayforanotherteamafteraone-week
waitingperiod.
Section4.
AssumedName
Ifaplayerisfoundusingsomeoneelse’sstudentIDtheparticipantwillbebarredfrom
participationinthatleague.Furthermore,theteamwillreceiveaforfeitanda“0”
sportsmanshipgrade.
Section5.
PlayingonMorethanOneTeaminaSport/Division
Astudentmayplayonmultipleteamsinanygivensport(i.e.soccer,football,volleyball,
basketball,etc..)andinanydivision(Comp,Rec,etc..)aslongastheyarenotplayingon
multipleteamsinthesamedivision(Comp,Rec,etc...)onthesamenight.Onlythree
participantsfromanyoneteamareallowedtoparticipatetogetheronanyotherteamina
sport/division.Duringtheplayoffs,playersparticipatingonmultipleteamsinanyonesport
mustchooseONEteamtoparticipateonforthedurationoftheplayoffs.InFraternity/Sorority
Leaguesallmembersofahouseteammustbemembersofthathouse.
Section6.
Adding/DroppingPlayers
Captainsmaynotadd/dropplayersfromtheirrosteronlytheindividualseekingtoaddordrop
maydosousingtheadd/dropfunctionontheIMOnlinewebsite.AllAdd/dropsmustbe
completed3hoursbeforegamesbegin.Tobeeligibletocompeteinpostseasonaplayermust
havebeenonateam’srosterforatleastoneregularseasongame.
Section7.
Rescheduling
Duetothenumberofteams,thecomparativelyshortplayingseason,andbusyplayingfacilities,
therewillbeNOreschedulingofcontests.

InclementWeather
Agamewillbeconsideredofficialifitisstoppedatorafterthehalfwaypointofthecontestdue
toinclementweather.Neverassumethatagamewillbecanceledbecauseofweather.
Decisionsonwhethertoplayornotwillbeagametimedecision.Everyattemptwillbemade
tocontactteamsinadvanceofcancellations.TeamsmayalsocontactIntramuralSportsat
(530)898-4444tofindoutifgameshavebeencancelled.Whenappropriatedecisionsongame
cancellationswillbemade3hoursbeforegamesbegin.
ATTIRE
Section1.
Shoes
Everyparticipantmustwearproperathleticshoes.Forindooractivitiestheymustbenonmarkingcourtshoes.Foroutdooractivities,cleatsmaybewornprovidedtheyhavemoldedall
rubbersoles.Metal,hardplasticorscrew-incleatsofanykindarenotallowed.
Section2.
Shirts
Ateammustwearthesamecoloredshirtsforanyteamactivity.Failuretodosowillresultin
adefault.Inthosesportsthatrequireparticipantstowearanumber(basketball)allplayers
musthaveaclearlymarked(nottaped)numberprintedontheirjerseyorriskassessmentofa
technicalfoul.Italsomayresultinalowersportsmanshipgradeatthediscretionoftheofficial
andorsupervisor.
COMPETITIVEBALANCE
A. TheIMSportsstaffreservestherighttopromoteordemoteteamsamongdivisions,
withoutconsentasnecessary,toenhancethe“competitivebalance”ofthedivisionand/or
theenjoymentoftheteamsinthedivision.
B. InthosecaseswherethereareteamscompetingintheRecreationDivisionand/orthe
CompetitiveDivisionwhoseskilllevelupsetsthe“competitivebalance”theIntramural
Sportsprogramreservestherighttomovethoseteamsintoaspecial“Rec.Elite”division.
Championsinthosedivisionswillstillreceivechampionshipt-shirts.

SPORTSMANSHIPRATING
TheRecreationalSportsSupervisorsandOfficialsgivesportsmanshipratingsto
teams/spectatorsaftereachcontest.TheintentoftheSportsmanshipRatingistopromotean
atmospherewherebyindividualteamsmonitorareresponsibleforthebehavioroftheirplayers
andspectators.Thefollowinginformationexplainstheseratings.
GoodTeamConductandSportsmanship
TeamcooperateswithIntramuralStaff.Playersdisplayrestraintwhentalking
totheofficialsregardinginterpretationofrulesandcalls.Thecaptain
demonstratesfullcontroloftheirteammatesandtheirfans.Team
demonstratesrespecttowardstaff,othercompetitors,equipmentandthe

FORFEITVS.NOSHOW
Ifateamorindividualfailstoshowupfortheirgame,theyhavedeprivedthemselvesandthe
otherparticipantsofthatopportunity.Thisiswhyallteamsandindividualsareurgedtoshow
upontimeforallscheduledgamesregardlessoftheirrecord.Thegamescoresandleague
standingshouldnotinfluencetheparticipants'levelofenjoyment.Thefollowingguidelines
wereestablishedforforfeits.

Forfeits
A. Anytimeateamdoesnothavetheminimumnumberofplayersonsitetobeginacontest.
A"win"willbeawardedtotheopposingteamalongwitha3-sportsmanshipratingandthe
teamforfeitingwillreceivea1sportsmanshiprating.Ifneitherteamisreadytoplaywith
theminimumnumberofplayersatgametime,bothteamswillreceiveaforfeitanda
sportsmanshiprating.
B. AforfeitisalsorecordedwhenateamcontactstheIntramuralprogramat530-898-6156by
3hourspriortogamesbeginningthedayoftheirgametoinformthemtheywillnotbe
availabletoplaytheirscheduledgame.
C. Ateammayreceiveaforfeitduetoimproperteamattire.
D. ForfeitsmaybeassessedbyanyRecreationalSportsstaffforuseofanineligibleplayeror
forplayer/spectatormisconduct.
E. Receiving(1)forfeitwillnoteliminateateamfromroundrobinleagueplayorfromthe
opportunitytobescheduledintoplayofftournamentiftheymeettheothereligibility
requirements.
F. Ateamreceiving(2)forfeitsinaseasonwillbeeliminatedfromparticipatingintheendof
theseasonplayofftournament.
Section2.
NoShow
A. Anytimenoonefromateamshowsupforscheduledcontestordoesnotcallinadvanceto
informtheIntramuralSportsOfficethattheywillnotbeavailabletoplaytheirscheduled
game.
B. Anyteamreceivinga“NoShow”andatthediscretionoftheDirectorcanbeautomatically
beeliminatedfromleagueplay.
POSTSEASON
A. Dependingupontime,facilityspace,andweatherconditionseveryattemptwillbemadeto
scheduleanendoftheseason,singleeliminationchampionshiptournament.
Unfortunately,duetopossibleexternalfactors(i.e.time,facilityspace,weather)thereisno
guaranteealleligibleteamswillbeincludedinthepostseason.
B. Tobeeligibleforpostseasonplayateammusthaveacumulativesportsmanshipgradeofa
“2”,notreceivedtwosportsmanshipgradesbelowa2.
C. Win/lossrecordswilldetermineseedingforthepostseason;incasesofteamswiththe
samewin/lossrecordtiebreakerswillberesolvedusingthefollowingcriteria…
1. Sportsmanshiprating
2. HeadtoHeadmatch-up
3. Pointdifferential
4. CoinToss
D. Postseasonscheduleswillbepostedonlineatleastonedaypriortothestartofplayoffs.It
istheteam’sresponsibilitytochecktheplayoffscheduleonlineforgamedayandtime.
E. ASportsmanshipscoreofatleast“2”mustbemaintainedineachpostseasongameinorder
toprogressinthepostseason.
