This
month we celebrate Seachtain
na
Gaeilge during which
classes will participate in a
range of different activities to promote
the Irish language and Irish culture. The
children will learn songs in Irish and have
a Ceili in school on 3rd March. Watch out
for Ceili Dancing in Laragh on 21st – all
welcome. This month try to use the
following phrases with your child –
Ar mhaith leat…….? Would you like….
Ba mhaith liom……. I would like
Níor mhaith liom……..I wouldn’t like
Activity DiaryAs part of our Active
School Programme, children will
keep an activity diary for a month.
During this time they will record
the various sports and activities
that they participate in throughout the week.
Keeping fit and active is hugely important for
us all. With spring in the air, encourage your
child to get active and have fun.
World Book Day
On 5th March pupils are invited
to dress up as their favourite
character from a book to
celebrate World Book Day. Be creative and

Connect with Respect
The pupils engaged in
activities to promote
internet
safety
awareness
in
February. Maple (our tiny teddy)
embarked on
a cyberjourney that
took him
all over the
world and
he has had
over
10,
000 hits on Facebook already.
Maple’s journey highlights to the
pupils how by posting an image or a
comment on line it is seen by a
worldwide audience instantly. A
map tracking Maple’s cyberjourney will be on view outside of
5th & 6th class over the coming
days.
Parents
can
access
information on internet safety
from WWW.WEBWISE.IE
Confirmation Class

Church. We wish the confirmation
candidates and their families the best
for the big day.

A Big Talk Programme
Following on from its success with the
Infants, pupils in 3rd & 4th will be busy
‘chatting’ over the next few weeks as they
work on a ‘Big Talk’ oral language programme.
As part of our policy under the National
Literacy & Numeracy Strategy, pupils will be
given
an
oral
language
development programme for
their homework. Oral language
development is a key component
to successful reading and is an
incredibly valuable part of your child’s
learning. Parents are encouraged to engage in
as many oral language opportunities as
possible with their children. Asking questions
such as who? Where? What? Why? How? will
prompt your child to develop both their oral
language and comprehension skills. See the
NCCA website for further information on how
you can support your child’s learning.

The Numbers Game
To help develop a positive
attitude towards maths
we plan to extend the
range of maths based
board games available to
the pupils during wet breaks. If you have
an unwanted board games (e.g. chess set,
UNO cards, Ludo) that would help
develop mathematical skills and concepts,
we would gladly accept them.
