Work experience – revised HSE guidance
Background
•
Part of larger project to revise much of HSE’s existing
guidance – as recommended by the Löfstedt report
(November 2011)
•
Perceptions – a complex, bureaucratic process: more
trouble than it’s worth ?
•
The Wolf Report
Work experience – revised HSE guidance
Revised guidance - aims
• Should be shorter and more straightforward
• Should only cover health and safety
Who’s it for ?
• Placement providers (employers), organisers
(schools/colleges/EBPs), parents and students
Work experience – revised HSE guidance
Underpinning philosophy
•
The placement provider (employer) is best
placed to manage the risks…
•
…so schools/colleges should not ‘second guess’
that process
•
Schools’ and colleges’ past (including pooled)
experience with that employer should act as a guide
•
No automatic need for repeat assessments for each
new student at a workplace
Work experience – revised HSE guidance
Guidance is structured according to the
responsibilities of those involved:
•Employer (placement provider) responsibilities
•Organisers – do’s and don’ts
•Parents & Students – guidance about
expectations
