POSITION DESCRIPTION Prepared: August 2015 POSITION TITLE: Facilitator DEPARTMENT: Learning & Development LOCATION: Parkville POSITION REPORTS TO: Manager, Consultancy & Learning POSITION SUPERVISES: Nil PURPOSE OF POSITION: This position contributes to the Alzheimer’s Australia mission through delivering high quality dementia education to aged care workers, health professionals, community groups, organisations and health professionals. This education is accredited and non-accredited and delivered across the state. POSITION PARAMETERS: This position involves the delivery of both accredited and non-accredited education in metropolitan and rural areas of Victoria and may also involve attending events such as conferences and expos on occasion. The role requires excellent communication, organisation and problem solving skills as well as the capacity to show initiative and work effectively with other members of the team. The position is also expected to contribute to the ongoing review and updating of Learning & Development education programs. A flexibility to deliver a wide range of health professional education programs would be highly desirable. POSITION OBJECTIVES 1. General Organisational Items (applying to all staff) 1.1 To be able to describe the organisation’s Vision, Mission, Aims and Services. 1.2 To assist in the positive promotion of the organisation and its services in all contacts with the community and stakeholders. 1.3 To assist in the dissemination of the organisation’s message to the broader community, to enhance the community’s understanding and acceptance of the needs of people with dementia and their families and carers. 1.4 To recognise the values of the organisation and participate in building a team of high quality staff and volunteers. 1.5 To participate in the organisation’s general and policy development. 1.6 To act in accordance with the organisation’s policies and procedures at all times. 1 2. Independent Position Responsibilities Work co-operatively and collaboratively with the Manager, Consultancy and Learning and others in the team to: 2.1 Deliver accredited and non-accredited education programs consistent with the learning outcomes and objectives and other requirements of the education program in both metropolitan and rural areas of the state. 2.2 Participate in the development and delivery of consultancy services to service providers as required. 2.3 Participate in the review of existing and the development of new courses as required. 2.4 Provide information advice and assistance to colleagues in relation to the effective operation of the Learning & Development team. 2.5 Participate in ongoing professional development aimed at continually improving quality service provision. 2.6 Assist with the management of courses in relation to participants, venues and resources, with the support of administrative staff. 2.7 Ensure education is delivered to the highest standard, and that participants are supported to achieve optimal outcomes. 2.8 Ensure that all appropriate data collection and record keeping occurs, consistent with program guidelines, Australian Skills Quality Authority and other requirements. 2.9 Provide advice and assistance that promotes continuous quality improvement for the Learning & Development department specifically and for the whole organisation generally. 2.10 Work with interpreters when delivering education to culturally and linguistically diverse community groups. 2.11 Attend and promote programs and services at a range of events as required. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Terms of engagement are specified in the Alzheimer’s Australia Vic & Health Services Union Enterprise Agreement 2012. Copies of these documents are available in the organisation’s Library. A six month qualifying period applies to all new incumbents. Salary packaging is available to eligible employees. AWARD CLASSIFICATION: Facilitator: Grade 2 (depending on qualifications and experience) QUALIFICATIONS: Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate field and educational qualifications to a minimum of Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or diploma level or higher in adult education for accredited programs. 2 KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: 1. Experience in facilitating effective learning environments for adults. 2. Experience in the health/welfare/aged care/disability sectors with experience delivering education to Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Personal Care Workers and allied health professionals. 3. Familiarity with the dementia competency and Certificates III & IV in Aged Care Work or HACC would be well regarded. 4. Familiarity with community care, residential aged care, health and disability settings across the continuum of care would be advantageous. 5. Computer literacy across a range of Microsoft applications. Willingness to travel to rural and regional Victoria to deliver education. 3 KEY SELECTION CRITERIA: (Each of the criteria must be addressed by the applicant, inclusive of supporting evidence) 1. Knowledge of dementia and its impact on the person with dementia and their families and friends. 2. Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline. 3. Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. 4. Demonstrated capacity to delivery high quality presentations. 5. Experience in delivering and evaluating education programs for adult learners. 6. Communication and presentation skills. 7. High level organisational and interpersonal skills. 8. Ability to work as a member of a team. 9. Familiarity with dementia competency and Certificates III and IV in Aged Care Work or HACC would be well regarded. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The (prospective) employee will be required to: 1. Maintain a current driver’s licence. 2. Provide evidence of entitlement to work in Australia, the maintenance of such entitlement being critical to continuance in the role. 3. Undertake a Police Check prior to being offered the position. 4. Be flexible in work hours at times to meet the reasonable demands of this position. 5.
