uniform) Day and ask the children to bring in a bottle
for our tombola for the Fayre. The bottle’s contents
can pretty much be anything from tomato ketchup to
fine wine – that’s entirely up to you! Just as long as
it is something we can use for the stall. Thank you!
Year 6 Reminder
Although many of us are hugely focused on the
SATs at this time of year, it’s very important to
remember that school is not just about academic
success but also about having fun together. Our
parent teacher association, the Friends of
Waterside, will be running our annual Summer
Fayre on Saturday 13th May from 11am to 3pm.
As usual we will be serving hot dogs and burgers,
there will be a range of stalls, Bouncy Castle,
Zumba and live music to entertain us all. All we
need is your support and the same lovely weather
that we’ve had for the last few years!
The message from our hard working committee is
that there is a meeting this Friday, 5th May at
1.15pm, for anyone who is able to come. We still
need some help with the following things:



General help with setting up on the day and
clearing away
Donations of teddies (in good condition,
please) for the Year 6 teddy stall. This stall
helps us raise money specifically for the
annual Year 6 Leavers’ Event
Raffle donations
As the lead up to SATs is so crucial, can we remind
parents that on Polling Day, May 4th, we will open as
normal for Year 6 only. Children should be brought
to the front entrance, as their usual entrance will be
used by the public for polling. We will also have to
ask children to bring a packed lunch as there will be
no kitchen facilities on this day.
SATs week as we all know is fast approaching
(Week beginning May 8th). Can we take this
opportunity to remind parents that attendance of all
pupils during this week is critical. Further
information on arrangements will be sent out nearer
the time by the Year 6 team.
Year 2 parents
Year 2 parents are currently invited to wait with their
children at the beginning of the day by the back
doors where the class teacher then collects the
children for registration. It has however been
bought to our attention that some children are being
dropped off here and are left unattended. If you are
unable to stay with your child, it is essential that your
child is brought to the big playground where KS2
meet. Here they can be supervised and kept safe.
Look after your backs!
Also, if there is anyone else out there who would like
to run a stall there is still time to contact us.
Mufti Day Friday 12th May – bring a bottle!
As most of you will know, the day before the
Summer Fayre we traditionally have a Mufti (non-
We did mention this issue last time – thank you to all
of you who responded. However, some of the
children still have amazing rucksacks that look as
though they are ready to climb Everest…but to be
honest we only have academic peaks to climb at

bags are much bigger than the children need. They
can do damage to a child’s back if they are very
heavy, and we don’t have room to store them.
With the brighter, warmer weather coming, we are
also hoping that we can reduce the size and quantity
of bags and coats children are bringing to school.
Children need to be reminded to take spare coats
and jumpers home and discouraged from bringing
huge backpacks. Thank you for your support!
A successful board games evening!
A really big thank you to Miss Mulley and her team
of staff for organising our first informal board games
evening last term. It was a great success with
families who brought along a wide variety of games.
Children, mums, dads, grandparents and teachers
all joined in with staff to compete in a friendly
relaxed atmosphere, helped by the donations of
yummy cakes and cups of tea. A generous £47.10
was raised for our school charity this year, Save
the Children Fund. Well done everyone!
Exciting news for the Children’s Centre
building!
Many of you will be aware that the lovely Children’s
Centre building which shares our site has sadly
been standing vacant since before last Christmas.
We are delighted to let you know that the
management of Little Shipmates pre-school will in
the future be using the building for a variety of
purposes, partly as office space but also we hope
there will be opportunities for community use. More
information will be available once they have taken
possession of the building. We are very pleased to
strengthen our partnership with Little Shipmates and
look forward to seeing the building busy and bustling
as before.

I am particularly looking forward to our Summer
Fayre, which is our biggest fundraiser in the year.
There is always a relaxed and friendly atmosphere on
the field and it is a pleasure to see so many families
gathered in the middle of the day, with children
playing safely and happily together. Start collecting
your change now so that your children have small
coins to use!
This will be my final Summer Fayre and I hope as
many of you as are able to will join us for what
promises to be a fun occasions.
Best wishes
Penny Bullough
