Sermon Notes

11Command
and teach these things. 12Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in
speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to
exhortation, to teaching. 14Do not neglect the gift you have, which was given you by prophecy when the council of
elders laid their hands on you. 15Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your
progress. 16Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both
yourself and your hearers.
I. Watch Your METHOD
Command and teach these things.
II. Watch Your MODEL
Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example
29Let
no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it
may give grace to those who hear. 31Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from
you, along with all malice. Ephesians 4:29, 31
III. Watch Your MESSAGE
Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching.
16And
he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up. And as was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the
Sabbath day, and he stood up to read. 17And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll
and found the place where it was written,
18
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives
and recovering of sight to the blind,
to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
19to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
20And he rolled up the scroll and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all in the synagogue
were fixed on him. 21And he began to say to them, “Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.” 22And all
spoke well of him and marveled at the gracious words that were coming from his mouth. Luke 4:16-22
IV. Watch Your MEANS
14Do
not neglect the gift you have
...he apportions to each one individually as he wills. 1 Corinthians 12:11
V. Watch Your MATURITY
15Practice
these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress.
VI. Watch Your MINISTRY
Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself
and your hearers.
“If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples." John 8:31
8But
even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let
him be accursed. 9As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the
one you received, let him be accursed. Galatians 1:8-9
One Last Thought: As we each fulfill our ROLE in the fellowship, we do so under the
authority of the WORD, by the power of the SPIRIT.
