Flow chart – ECA Rule 4 for 2016-17 season (1.00pm start on Day 1)
Rule 4.3.1: Day 1 Team A bats and innings compulsorily closed after Over
Requirement is bowled. No set finish time conditions permitting.
Rule 4.3.2: Day 1 If no time is lost on Day 1 AND Team A is still batting at
6.15pm AND their Over Requirement has not been bowled, Team A will
continue batting until the Over Requirement is bowled.
Rule 4.3.4: Day 1 Team A bats and is dismissed or declares before the
completion of their Over Requirement. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies if before
6.15pm. Rule 4.3.2 applies if after 6.15pm. Regardless of time that Team A
finishes innings Team B must bat for balance of overs left to bowl. Uncompleted
over counts as completed over for calculation of overs to be bowled. Three (3)
over reduction for change of innings: 3 overs or less left = end of play.
Rule 4.1.2 (except when 4.12 applies): OVER REQUIREMENT:-Dunstan, Wright, ABCD Turf, Macgibbon, Burt,
Menzies/Mackay, A Syn: 160 over matches (80 overs a day). Other grades: 144 over matches (72 overs a day)
Rule 4.3.3 (when Rule 4.3.2 does NOT apply): Day 2 starts at 1.00pm. Team B bats and innings
compulsorily closed after Over Requirement is bowled.
WHEN Rule 4.3.2 applies: Day 2 starts at 1.00pm. Team B only entitled to bat for the number
of completed overs bowled at 6.15pm on Day 1.
Rule 4.3.4 (when Rule 4.3.2 does NOT apply): Day 2 starts at 1.00pm. Team B continues its
innings and is entitled to its Over Requirement (in addition to any overs faced on Day 1)
Rule 4.4.1: 1 -29 mins lost on Day 1 after start of play. No reduction in Over
Requirement on Day 1. Play continues until Over Requirement is bowled. Game
NOT in ordinary conditions. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as time lost.
Rule 4.4.1: Day 2 (when 1 -29 mins lost on Day 1): No reduction in Over Requirement on Day 2.
Play continues until Over Requirement is bowled. Game NOT in ordinary conditions.
Rule 4.5.1: 30-59 mins lost on Day 1 after start of play. Play continues to
6.30pm. No over to commence after 6.30pm. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as
time lost. Rule 4.5.2: If less than the Over Requirement is bowled on Day 1 then
play on Day 2 will commence at a Revised Start Time (Table Rule 4.5.3) and any
overs still to be bowled from Day 1 will be bowled on Day 2. An uncompleted
over at the end of Day 1 counts as a completed over for the calculation of the
Revised Start Time on Day 2. Game NOT in ordinary conditions.
Rule 4.5.3: Day 2: Revised Start Time based on overs still to be bowled from Day 1 (Table in
Rule 4.5.3). Game NOT in ordinary conditions. Rule 4.5.4 applies: (a) if Team A is batting at
close of play on Day 1; (b) if Team B is batting at close of play on Day 1; (c) if both teams have
completed a first innings by close of play on Day 1.
Rule 4.6.1: 60 mins or more lost on Day 1 after start of play. Play continues to
6.30pm. No over to commence after 6.30pm. Rule 4.3.2 no longer applies as
time lost. Game in ordinary conditions. Rule 4.1.5: If minimum of 20 overs not
been bowled on Day 1 then play is cancelled.
Rule 4.6.1: Day 2: Play will commence at 12.00pm on Day 2 and cease at 6.00pm, irrespective
of number of overs bowled up to a maximum of 97 overs. Game in ordinary conditions.
Rule 4.8.1: 1 to 59 mins lost on Day 2 (either at the start of Day 2 or during Day 2), no reduction to the number of overs required to be bowled on Day 2 (as calculated at the end of Day
1). Play shall continue on Day 2, if necessary (weather and light permitting), after 6:00pm to achieve the completion of the required number of overs OR a result is achieved.
Rule 4.8.2: 60 mins or more lost on Day 2 (either at the start of Day 2 or during Day 2) the match will continue until 6:00pm. Under no circumstances can an over commence after
6:00pm on Day 2. The match result will be a draw UNLESS Team B has received it’s agreed over entitlement by 6:00pm or it is dismissed or has passed Team A’s score.
Rule 4.9: Loss of time at or after 6.30pm on either day. Rule 4.3.2 applies on Day 1.

Rule 4.5.3: At the conclusion of Day One, should less than the Over Requirement be bowled, the umpires (or in their absence the captains of both
teams), shall calculate the Revised Start Time on Day Two based on the following table:

Rule 4.7.1: Should play on Day One commence after 1.00pm but before 2.30pm the Revised Number of Overs for the match and Over Requirement for
each day of play will be calculated as follows:
