Special Olympics World Games Marco Büchel, former ski-racing professional The world games are held every two years, alternating between summer and winter games. World games, but also small or medium sized national or international contests should always represent an integral experience for the participants. Therefore besides the sportive competition there is a supporting program with an opening ceremony, formal recognition of the participants and a closing ceremony. Also social activities like dances and game evenings are part of Special Olympics sporting events.
