CONTEXT
The De Beers Technical Function is accountable for developing dynamic, integrated and commercially focussed
upstream supply strategies in response to market demand, for enabling optimised asset and project performance
and for innovative technical, functional and collaborative business leadership that enables a step-change in
sustainable long term value creation aligned to the Group Strategy.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
Lead the development, implementation and monitoring of an integrated Group S&SD Strategy and implementation
framework to enable business focused S&SD initiatives that shape the desired culture and behaviour to enable
sustainable achievement of business objectives across the GoC
LEVEL OF WORK OF THE ROLE
Level IV – Parallel Processing: Conceptualise, develop and integrate Safety, Health & Environmental systems and
broader interactive risk-based scenarios to optimise each respective system and the relationship between these to
enable the attainment of the Group’s Sustainability Strategy
WORK OF ROLE
 Lead the development, refinement and monitoring of an integrated De Beers Group of Companies (DB GoC)
S&SD Strategy and Policy, ensuring alignment with local business and S&SD priorities
 In collaboration with the DB GoC Executive and Operating Unit leadership, lead the development and
implementation of an integrated GoC S&SD framework to guide the programming of S&SD projects and
initiatives
 Define and lead the implementation of core S&SD benchmarks, codes, standards and practices to enable the
consistent operationalization of GoC S&SD interventions and remedial measures
 Drive the comprehensive analysis of emergent global, regional and industry S&SD trends, regulatory
amendments and best practices to proactively inform the GoC S&SD Strategy, Policy and enabling interventions

 Initiate and lead strategic S&SD internal and external stakeholder engagement and collaboration forums to
facilitate the proactive co-creation of S&SD priorities and interventions.
 Report, engage and collaborate with the Executive and Operating Unit leadership on key S&SD performance
metrics and benchmarks that measure progress against the agreed S&SD Strategy.
 Advise on, and lead the development of, the organisational capacity and capabilities required to inform and
shape S&SD priorities and remedial interventions
 Lead the development, consolidation and prioritisation of S&SD systems, processes, reports and interventions
ensuring the seamless and efficient integration of new practices with established systems.
 Develop efficient and effective high performance and accountable S&SD function, ensuring capability
development, performance management, collaboration and a common sense of purpose.


Advanced technical knowledge of internal and external Safety, Health and
Environmental fundamentals in multiple operating jurisdictions
Advanced understanding of S&SD global best practice, operational benchmarks and
performance standards
Appreciation of the full mining/resource extraction value chain and its key drivers
High levels of understanding of critical controls and risk management of new
technologies and applications
High level of understanding of Operating and Organisational models
Applied knowledge of change management and behaviour change models,
preferably within the S&SD context
Proven experience in developing and contributing to global S&SD strategy
formulation and leading commercially based strategy execution
Operational experience in a resources/ mining/ oil & gas/ manufacturing or related
heavy industry
Significant experience in conceptualising and leading large scale change projects
and project management
Significant leadership experience within matrix and multi-disciplinary/crossfunctional environments
Proven track record in multiple and multi-jurisdictional stakeholder engagement
Proven delivery focus with ability to set clear goals and standards and successfully
implementing remedial action
Experience in driving continuous improvement to enhance systems, processes and

Proven ability to quickly build rapport and trust with internal and external

Demonstrated team leadership/ line management experience.
Willingness to undertake regular regional and international travel as per the
requirements of the role
