Welcome to first grade at EDUPRIZE. My name is Janeen Powers, and I am delighted to be your child’s first grade teacher! I am very eager to start another fantastic and productive year! I am a mom of two boys, James who is 8 and Tate who is 4. My family is very special to me, and my favorite thing to do is spend time with my boys. My husband, boys, and I have lived in San Tan Valley for over 6 years. I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Social Science with an emphasis in Elementary Education from Ashford University of Iowa. I feel very blessed to be teaching in a technology infused classroom. I love technology and believe it serves to greatly enhance a child’s education. My goal is to seamlessly integrate technology into our daily lessons and routines. You will be surprised what your child will be able to do with an iPad by the end of the year. This year, our class will study four different cottage themes: Mineral Market, Birdhouse, Sweet Shop, and Plymouth Plantation. We will be using iPad’s and Chromebook’s to enhance the learning that will take place during these cottages. We will journey back in time as we enter the Plymouth Plantation Cottage. We will learn about the Pilgrims who left England and sailed a long and arduous journey aboard the Mayflower to the New World. We will test our taste buds during our Sweet Shop Cottage. The Sweet Shop Cottage teaches us about My Plate and the different types of foods your body needs to keep you strong and healthy. During the Mineral Market Cottage, we will delve deep inside our Planet to learn what Earth is made of. Finally, we will take flight into our Birdhouse Cottage. Here, we will take to the sky and immerse ourselves into the study of birds. Did you know that a Hummingbirds heart beats 1000 times per minute? That is over ten times faster than a human heart! I am very excited to meet you at our Open House that is scheduled for Monday, July 24th in room 24 from 2:30 – 3:15 p.m. When you come to Open House, please bring your supplies. At this time, we can meet; you can see our classroom, and also get important information about carpool and dismissal. Our first day of school is Wednesday, July 26th. Our PM TOPS class starts at 11:00 a.m. The students should be at the picnic tables next to Building 1 by 10:55 a.m. You must be on time and present on the first day of school to be considered enrolled at EDUPRIZE. I look forward to meeting you and your family! If you have any questions or concerns about the upcoming school year, please do not hesitate to let me know. My email address is [email protected]. Thank you in advance for our partnership to make this school year a very rewarding experience for your child. Sincerely, Mrs. Powers SUPPLIES Please bring the school supplies to the Open House on Monday, July 24th. This will allow me to store the supplies and have a smooth start on the first day of school. Some items will be used as a classroom set, so please do not write the students’ names on the supplies unless it is indicated.
