Keep shoulders square to were you want the volleyball to go. Skill Challenge: Have students break down into their sport education teams. Today’s skill challenge involves a team activity. Each sport education team will need to have one volleyball and need to go to there assigned volleyball court. Each team will line up in a circle in their assigned court. The circle should be about 10ft in diameter and the person to the right or left should be at least arms length apart. From here each team will play a game of “keep it up”. Here students will begin by forearm passing the ball to each other. Few rules though, each student can only hit the ball once before passing it. After passing the Forearm Pass/Bump The forearm pass is the attempt by a team to properly handle the opponent's serve, or any form of attack. Forearm Passing Activity #1: - Have each student find a partner, and each pair of students needs a volleyball. - Have students line up along the sideline of the court in a straight line, with their partner standing about 10 ft directly across from their other partner. - The first drill starts when the one partner with the ball underhand tosses the ball to the other partner, the other partner will then use all the skill cues and use the forearm pass and return back to the partner. Each partner will do this 10 times then switch. Forearm Passing Activity #2: Variation of activity #1 - Have each student find a partner and each pair of students needs a volleyball. - Again have students line up along the sideline of the court in a straight line, with their partner standing about 10 ft directly across from their partner, just like the same drill before. - Again use all the skill cues as before. - This is were the drill is a little different from before. - Students instead of taking turns forearm passing, they will continuously volley and challenge themselves to see how long they can volley the ball for. - If a person messes up they will start over again. - Students should count how many consecutive volleys they have. ball to a teammate the next teammate passes to another. Remember every one in the group must touch the ball before another student can get a second turn. Also students cannot pass the ball to the person next to them, must go across.
