The Farndale Avenue Murder
Mystery
Murder At Checkmate Manor is the alternate name of this hilarious comedy. Every theatrical group generally has things go wrong. The
ladies of the F.A.H.E.T.G. Dramatic Society
have everything happen that can happen. Scenery collapses, cues are missed, lines are forgotten
and sound effects take on strange notes. The ladies (aka Driftwood Players) are presenting this
ambitious and cunning whodunit. Despite the
nearly wholesale contretemps, the leader of the
group rises to the occasion, saves the situation
and provides the final innovative twist. So that
no one will get bored there is a Film, a Fashion
Show, and a Murder Mystery Quiz (complete
with prizes).
You need to have some pretty good performers to act as badly as the “Farndale Ladies” do
and director Dave Hurtubise has pulled together
Heritage Playhouse Update
At the AGM Nest Lewis, President of Gibsons Landing Heritage Society, reported that the
Playhouse has had another busy and successful
year, with many different functions. In a review
Nest has conducted, the lowest number of days
of use were for January and August, each with 8
days of use. However, every other month had
between 21 and 30 days of use. Nest thanked
Driftwood Players for the generous support
which has managed to “keep GLHS afloat”. She
reiterated the priority status that Driftwood
Players receive for the use of the Playhouse.
Nest also commented on the positive involvement with Driftwood Players in putting on the
second annual SOPA performances. In answer to
questions, Nest noted that there was now enough
cash available to have the back deck covered as
soon as a builder is available (thanks in part to a
donation from Rotary), and also for air conditioning to be installed prior to next summer –
thanks to SCRD grants.
could be donated to us for use in the Driftwood
Room to keep all of our accumulated materials.
Please call Marcia Forst at 604.886.0682 if you
can help.
