She has been involved with cheer and dance since Junior High School, was on the Varsity Squad in High School, and she has since volunteered for her daughter’s competitive cheer team. She is excited to utilize her skills and experience to create a great Freshman team that performs with high energy. She will also strive to provide the team members with a rewarding team experience and a solid foundation for a successful future as cheerleaders. Coach Asay moved to Mesa from Chicago in 2004. She has been married for 15 years and has 4 amazing children that keep her very busy. She has worked in healthcare for the last 10 years and is excited for this next hands-on and up-tempo challenge as a Puma! You can pay with cash, check, money order, or credit card. Once paid no refunds will be given, even if your daughter quits the team. All bookstore receipts are to be turned in to the Head coach for their records. Make yourself a copy if you wish to keep your own records as well Head coaches send out invoices each month You will receive a payment schedule if selected for the team. Your first payment of $200 will be due August 14th (all squads) It is very important to make your payments on time as our gear orders depend on it. Time Commitment Pg6 & 7 Being a member of the Spiritline program is a huge time commitment. Pom and cheer should come second only to academics. Your obligations will run from the day you make the team through the last day of the school year. Competition teams will have additional after school practices. Competition teams do practice during CUSD Breaks. Additional after school practices will most likely change each season as we try to coordinate gym space with other teams. Eligibility Pg2 ELIGIBILITY: Must be enrolled in a minimum of five courses. Exceptions for graduating seniors who have or are fulfilling graduation requirements and are on target to graduate. All students must have a passing grade in all classes. Coaches will check grades periodically. A student may not perform with incomplete class work, poor attendance, endanger of failing or failing grade. Students must follow all District and AIA guidelines. Attendance Pg2 Follow school attendance and tardy policy Absent the day of a game= no participation Coaches may pull attendance records 3rd hour Benching due to attendance/ tardies Attendance at outside of 3rd period practice Conflict with MSE dates- contact HEAD AND LEVEL coach 2 weeks prior Practice/Performance Attire Pg3 Must always be in appropriate practice attire to participate. Cheer – leotard, cheer shorts, sports bra, shoes, and socks – NO BOWS Pom – leotard, spandex shorts, sports bra, shoes/jazz shoes, and poms – NO BOWS All pom members must have running shoes, jazz shoes, and poms at all practices. Games/Performances – Uniform, spandex, navy sports bra, bow, shoes, and socks. Game Day Outfit – Assigned jersey/t-shirt, long jeans, white shoes, hair done as assigned. Students are responsible for ALL uniforms: PHS uniforms, practice uniforms, game day attire, etc. Students must pay for all costs of alterations/replacements. Practice/ Performance Rules Pg3 During performances and practice students may bring only the essentials. All other belongings will go in their locker. Students are assigned lockers and locks and are REQUIRED TO USE THEM. Perry High School, CUSD, and Coaches are not responsible for any lost/stolen items. Phones must be put away during all practices/games/performances/activities. If a student needs to use his/her phone for an emergency he/she must have permission from a coach. Students must travel to and from all games and activities with all other students and coaches. Exceptions will be made prior to the event and must be approved by head AND level coaches. Students may not go into football/basketball stands without being approved by a coach first. Coaches may pull a student from games/performances/activities at any time. Summer Camp is mandatory! If a student does not attend summer camp he/she may be dismissed from the squad at coach’s discretion. Competitions Pg3 Squads will always fulfill the AIA’s “Philosophy of Spiritline” before competing. Varsity and JV will compete. Coaches reserve the right to add/remove athletes at their discretion. Freshman could be called up. Varsity Pom will not all compete, there will be a separate competition team. Competition team may participate in studio- Studio must always come second to Pom There will be mandatory outside of school practices to prepare for competition. If any student misses a practice (3rd hour class/outside practices) two weeks prior to competition he/she will be replaced, and he/she will not compete for that competition. Mandatory Spirit Events (MSE) Pg3 Must be in attendance unless approved by coach AT LEAST 2 weeks prior. MSE’s include but are not limited to 3rd hour, outside of school hours practices, games, competitions, fundraisers, and community service. Athletic schedules (including practices) can and often do change. Playoffs Gym schedules If a student is to miss any MSE’s they need to fill out a Make-up work Form. Coaches will work on a case by case basis with parents and students on such events. Safety Pg3 SAFTEY IS OUR NUMBER ONE CONCERN. New skills must be approved by coaches. Injuries or suspected injuries must be reported to coach immediately. If an athlete hits their head they must tell both the head and level coach at the time of the injury even if concussion like symptoms are not present. Coach will fill out injury report Coach will contact trainer/nurse who will determine need for medical att. All athletes required to take the brain book concussion course. Athletes expected to follow protocols as presented in this course. Commitment Pg4 Day of selection until the last day of school. Spiritline must come before other commitments. Must alert coaches prior to tryouts if you plan to participate in other sports/activities. Second to academics. Sometimes it is not feasible. The following circumstances can result in automatic dismissal from the PHS Pom & Cheer program: non-payment for mandatory cheer items or events. Not following the contract. Benching and Dismissal Pg4 There are a variety of reasons an athlete may be benched. By signing this contract you are indicating you understand AND agree to your daughter being benched for any of these reasons. Major highlights Students that are injured must have doctor notes. Injured students will be benched until coaches have a doctor’s note clearing him/her 100% to participate. Inappropriate pictures or comments on the internet, Facebook, Myspace, Instagram, Twitter, and/or text messages, etc. Any form of bullying. Benching and Dismissal cont. Pg4 Dismissal A student may be dismissed from the squad at the discretion of the coach and/or administration for such actions set in the Perry Pom and Cheer Contract, Student Citizenship Contract, Athlete Code of Conduct, and AIA Rules and Regulations. A student receiving an “F” in any class on a progress report, or semester grade may be dismissed. A student may be dismissed of such actions that include, but not limited to smoking, drug use, alcohol use, profanity at any event or at school, ditching classes, breaking school rules, inappropriate use of internet, Facebook, Myspace, Instagram, Twitter, etc., and/or text messages. Bullying/cyber bullying of any kind will not be tolerated. A student that has been dismissed or has quit the team: must turn in his/her uniform and all school property. does not letter. is not eligible for any end of the year awards. is responsible for all expenses on his/her behalf prior to being dismissed. By signing this contract You are indicating that you: fully understand and will abide the rules and regulations of the Perry Pom & Cheer Contract, in addition to AIA, NFHS, and AACCA rules and regulations. Athletes will not be permitted to begin practice until this agreement is on file with PHS Pom and Cheer Coaches. I understand that if I/my child should choose to not follow these rules disciplinary action shall be enforced.
