Career destinations of our Postgraduates
Many of our graduates go into career areas directly reflecting the skills they have gained through studying our
programmes. Below is a list of case studies to give examples of the sorts of career paths available for our Masters
programmes within the School:
Careers after an MSc in Accounting Finance and Management
While some past students have gone on to more specialised studies, others have gone straight into employment with
the banking, accounting and consultancy sectors being particular favourites. Past students have gone on to work for
some of the largest professional services companies in the world such as Deloitte, Ernst and Young, Pricewaterhouse
Coopers and KPMG.
Careers after an MSc in Economics
This programme will provide students with a sound basis for further study for their future career not only in economics,
but also in a wide range of fields including finance, business and management. Graduates have gone on to work within
public services such as Ofcom and some have gone into teaching; with one graduate employed by the Banking
University of Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam.
Careers after an MSc in Economics and Econometrics
This programme will provide you with a sound basis for your future career not only in economics, but also in a wide
range of fields including: finance, business management, public service or teaching. Graduates have gone on to work
for economic forecasting companies such as the Centre for Economics and Business Research (CEBR) and some have
continued their academic studies with PhD research.
Careers after an MSc in Economics and Finance
This programme provides excellent preparation for careers in investment management, financial research, trading,
consultancy and corporate finance, with examples of past students going on to work for companies including the Warsaw
Stock Exchange and the Central Bank of Malaysia. Some graduates for this programme have also specialised in
international business and world affairs working for multinational media companies such as The Economist, along with
some working in professional services such as KPMG.
Careers after an MSc in Economics and Public Policy
As a more specialised MSc degree, graduates will be able to pursue careers as economists in the public sector or as
academic researchers in the field of public sector economics. One of our graduates has been employed as an Assistant
Economist for the UK government.
Careers after an MSc in Economics, Accounting and Finance
This programme will provide you with a sound basis for your future career in a wide range of fields including: economics,
accounting, finance, public service and teaching. You will also develop a range of transferable skills that will be of value
in employment. One of our graduates has been employed as a Quantitative Research Analyst for the multinational asset
management company Schroders.
Careers after an MSc in Economics, Finance and Management
While some past students have gone on to more specialised studies, others have gone straight into employment with
the banking, accounting and consultancy sectors being particular favourites, including the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi
UFG and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. Graduates have also gone on to work in government and we
currently have a graduate from this programme who is a Teaching Assistant here at the University of Bristol.
Careers after an MSc in Finance and Investment
This programme provides excellent preparation for careers in investment management, financial research, trading,
consultancy and corporate finance, and for further academic study in Finance. Many of our graduates for this programme
find employment for prestigious multinational banks such as Deutsche Bank AG, HSBC, Barclays and the Royal Bank
of Scotland. Some of our graduates also work in the professional services sector in companies such as Deloitte and
KPMG.
Careers after an MSc in Management
Previous graduates of the MSc in Management have gone on to work at a variety of companies all over the world. These
include the world’s largest consulting firm Accenture; China Airlines; and influential technology and manufacturing
companies such as Dell Company Ltd and Toyota Motor Investment Co Ltd.
Careers after an MRes in Economics
This programme is designed for those students with a potential interest in future study at PhD level, and emphasises
the knowledge and skills needed for PhD research. The programme may also be suitable for those planning to work as
an economist after their studies and seeking a good technical training as a foundation for their later career.
