process in 2014
• ACCJC defines the purposes of accreditation as threefold:
•
•
•
Provide quality assurance to the public and students, as well as to federal and state
governments (gateway to Title IV).
Provide impetus for institutional self-improvement and support for educational
excellence
Help higher education become more effective.
Accreditation Process
• Accreditation is mainly a process of internal evaluation, resulting in an
Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) on how we meet the 4 standards:
1.
2.
3.
4.
Mission, Academic Quality and Institutional Effectiveness, and Integrity.
Student Learning Programs and Support Services
Resources
Leadership and Governance
• A visiting team of administrators, faculty, and staff from other CCs will visit
the college for one week to review and verify our report and determine
whether we sufficiently meet the standards.
Recent Changes from ACCJC
• 2014 standard revisions clarified language and consolidated organization of
the standards.
• Additional emphasis on SLO data (including distance learning) and putting
findings into action.
• A Quality Focus Essay (QFE) is now required after the self-study, identifying
2-3 major new directions for institutional self-improvement.
• College Reporting reflects process changes.
• Changes to Visiting Team Preparation and Actions, ACCJC Policy on Actions.

Next Steps…
• Talk with your co-chair about folks on-campus (faculty, staff, administrators,
students with a range of experience) to bring into your standard team.
• Reach out to them informally and invite them to the spring flex
accreditation kick-off. Ask Diane & Georg for help if you’re having a hard
time recruiting team members.
