A Message from
Kit Snyder, CEO
Happy New Year, members! Thank you for being part of our Consumers
family and placing your trust in us. We consider it both a privilege and
a responsibility to continually improve our services. Our goal is to save
you time and money and put a smile on your face, while maintaining the
highest security standards. As we go into 2014, I would like to share with
you upcoming developments that will provide even more convenient
banking options.
Consumers Credit Union is strategically focused on infrastructure and
technology enhancements. Last year, we introduced our ATM and
office locator to connect you to Consumers and our network of 30,000
surcharge-free CO-OP ATMs on the go. We also added our online
mortgage application and made it more convenient to complete certain
loan documents by secure email. Soon we will launch an enhanced
transfer feature that will make it easier for you to transfer money to other
people and to your accounts at other financial institutions.
This year, we will continue to improve processes to allow you to open accounts efficiently and
effectively in person and online. In addition, developing more convenient mobile banking options
remains a top priority.

While many members increasingly choose the convenience of banking online and via mobile devices,
we have not forgotten the importance of relationship banking. We will continue to invest in new
locations and our staff to assist you with the sensitive or complex transactions you prefer to handle
in person. This spring, we are breaking ground on two new office locations in Grand Rapids, which
will open this fall. These offices will allow us to provide more focused service to our Grand Rapids
members.

Communities in Schools Kalamazoo
Consumers is pleased to once again partner with Communities in Schools
Kalamazoo to provide after-school financial education to local middle
and high school students. Over the past year, we have conducted two
six-week sessions with 25 students. Our next session begins this month.
Downtown Office Manager Clarence Lloyd, says,
“This particular partnership allows us to provide
a basic financial foundation to students who
may not have any exposure to sound money
management. These classes can change the
course of a family’s financial future when the
students take that info back to their homes.”
Topics covered include the why and how of
making a budget, the importance of your credit
score, and how good grades now can translate
into dollars in your future. The program is
designed to grow to include four sessions per school year, one per grade
at the high school level.
Dollars for Scholars–Now Accepting Applications!
We believe in contributing to the well-being of
our membership by supporting our students as
they further their education! In 2014, we will be
awarding 20 scholarships of $1,000 and an iPad
to Consumers Credit Union members who are graduating high school
seniors. To learn more and apply, visit ConsumersCU.org/Information/
DollarsforScholars.
