It’s Your World Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has. -Margaret Mead Chelsea Clinton wrote a book called “It’s Your World: Get Informed, Get Inspired & Get Going!” This book focuses on how you, as teachers and students, can make positive changes in your community. http://www.barnesandnoble.com/blog/barnes-noblecontest-win-an-exclusive-get-going-day-with-chelseaclinton/ Follow the Link & Watch the Video at the Bottom In the spirit of this book, teachers were encouraged through a contest with Barnes & Noble to submit project ideas to improve their community. We submitted a proposal to adopt a section of the desert to clean up. These pictures are of our adopted land off of Montana. We would then wash, sort, and count all the items we collect and create artwork out of it. Volunteers from local non-profits would be invited to assist with the cleanup and creation of the artwork. Local artists and environmental services indivduals would give students workshops along the way to further their education. After all artwork has been created, it will be a part of a traveling art exhibit that will be hosted by El Paso, Las Cruces & Juarez to better inform our region about recycling. All artwork will be for sale. Any proceeds will go back to the local non-profits. Great news- we submitted this project to Barnes & Noble and WON!!! What does this mean? • Chelsea Clinton will be coming to our school next week to do a kickoff event to raise awareness about our project. • We will begin this project first thing next year.
