A Letter from the Superintendent
I wanted to take this opportunity to update our community on the progress of
our school. I know that our district has gone through a lot of transition in the
past year as we have implemented new systems, expectations and
accountability for students and staff. Although this has been difficult, it has been
necessary to provide the quality education that our students deserve.
Through the course of this transition we have lost a lot of instructional staff.
Some have retired, some have taken opportunities that have presented
themselves, and others have moved on as they are not in support of this new
system. To all of them, I wish them luck.
As for our new staff, I am extremely excited for the level of professionalism,
education, experience and enthusiasm that they will be bringing to our school.
We have been able to bring in teachers that share the vision of meeting the
needs of our students. These teachers will provide a rigorous and meaningful
education, an education with experiences that help to build relevance and
meaning as our students acquire real world skills to compete in their post
secondary path. Our new teachers are eager to have their families become a
part of the Goldbug community.
Additionally, we will be sending out information on courses available to
students in the near future. I hope that all of you will see what great
educational opportunities your students will have in the upcoming school year
in Fowler School District. As always, if you would like to meet with Mrs.
McDowell and I, we would be happy to sit down with you to discuss any
comments, questions or concerns that you might have.
At this time, I hope you will join me in welcoming our new staff to Fowler.
Mr. Jeff Bollinger
Superintendent
Fowler USD #225
Miss Howe, Preschool & Kinder-Prep
Hi! My name is Miss Kamisha Howe. I've been an educator in Fowler
for the last two years. This year I'm going to teach both preschool
and kinder-prep. I attained my masters degree in education in the
spring of 2013 from Newman University. My son, Vance, and I live
here in Fowler and are thrilled to be Goldbugs. I put my all in to
educating tomorrow's leaders, while wearing a smile while doing so. I
believe every child can achieve their upmost potential in a learning
environment that is individually tailored and designed to meet their
needs. We are truly blessed to have such capabilities here in Fowler.
This is going to be an awesome school year. I look forward to each
and every moment of it. May God bless you and yours! Go BUGS!!!
Mrs. Foster, Kindergarten
I am Erica Foster, I am from Fowler (born and raised a Goldbug)
and I am currently the kindergarten teacher. I have been teaching
at USD 225 for going on 9 years. During my time teaching at
Fowler, I have taught 4th grade, 1st grade, kindergarten, and K/1
combined. I have been married to my husband, Jeremy, for nearly
13 years. We have two wonderful children. Ryleigh, our daughter,
will be in seventh grade and Dylan, our son, will be in kindergarten.
When I have free time I enjoy family time, camping, Pinterest and
naps.
Welcome Mrs. Dizmang to 1st Grade
My name is Emily Dizmang. I have been teaching in Garden City for 13
years. I have taught kindergarten, first grade, second grade and I was a
reading interventionist. I have had a passion for teaching for as long as I can
remember. I have been involved in many activities in my current school.
Some of those activities have been STUCO, curriculum committees, talent
show committee and many other things.
I am married to my husband Derrick and we have 2 children, Colt and
Sariah. We have a dog named Casper. We love to travel, camp and be
outdoors.
We chose to move to Fowler because we wanted our children to go to a
smaller school. When we visited Fowler, we felt like it was an amazing fit for
our family. My family is so excited to become a part of the Fowler
community. I feel like there are many exciting things happening in Fowler
Schools and look forward to being a part of that.
Welcome Mrs. McLachlan to 2nd Grade
Hello fellow Goldbugs!! My name is Kim McLachlan and I am so
excited to be joining your community. Believe it or not, I was born a
Goldbug. My parents are both alumni of the Fowler School system.
Along with my grandparents, aunts and uncles.
However, I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona. I attended Arizona State
University for my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education.
GO Sun Devils!! Northern Arizona University is
where I received my master’s degree in Elementary Education. This is my 22nd year in education. I began as
a first grade teacher and then became an academic coach for 13 years. I am currently a second grade
teacher in a Title 1 school in metro Phoenix area.
I am coming to Fowler with my family. My husband Mike and I have been married for 16 years and have
two “wonderful” boys. Zach is going to be a seventh grader and Danny is going into fifth grade. They are
very excited to move to Fowler. We spend as much time in Fowler as we can. The boys love going to the
library and pool during the summer and wish for snow when we are there in the winter. We can’t wait to get
there this summer.
Welcome Ms. Lackey to 3rd Grade
I graduated from Axtell High School, Axtell, Kansas, a small rural community in
northeast Kansas. I graduated from Benedictine College, Atchison, Kansas the
Fall of 2009 in Elementary Education. I have one son whose name is Zach and
he is also a teacher. I did my student teaching at the second grade level at
Atchison Public Elementary School. I am going on my sixth year of teaching. My
first three years were at the third grade level and these past two years at the
fourth grade level. However, I find that the third grade level is my favorite. I
chose to become an elementary teacher due to the passion that I have in
working with children. Before becoming a teacher, I was a volunteer in working
with Youth Ministry at my church. I enjoy living in a small rural
community. Some of my hobbies include; listening to Christian music, baking,
walking, bicycle riding, and reading inspirational and children's literature.
Mrs. Bollinger, 4th Grade
I am a Colorado native and mother of 8 children. Colorado Mesa University is my alma
mater where I received degrees in early childhood education and social sciences. I also
earned a master’s degree in Curriculum and instruction from Colorado Christian
University. I have many years of experience teaching preschool, have been a reading
interventionist, k-12 reading program coordinator, professional development leader,
and 3rd grade classroom teacher.
I am currently enrolled in the Wichita State teacher apprentice program to complete my
Kansas teacher licensure. It is my belief that strong character, leadership and critical
thinking skills are important to building genuine confidence in students. I strive to support
and challenge my students to be the best they can be through fun, relevant, and meaningful experiences.
I love the children at Fowler elementary and am so grateful for the opportunity to move up with my class
and teach 4th grade next year!
My family and I are thankful to all of the wonderful people and families who have shown us kindness and
Goldbug values this year! We love being part of this community!
Mrs. Norman, 5th Grade
I am Donna Norman, currently the 5th grade teacher. I graduated
from FHSU with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education. I am
married to Bill and we have two adult sons. My husband and sons
graduated from Fowler High School. I love working with 5th graders. I
also am the director for our after school program—IXL. Looking
forward to the new direction IXL is implementing this coming school
year. In my spare time I enjoy reading and gardening.
Welcome Mrs. Hodde to 6th Grade
Hi everyone, I am Cecilia Hodde. I have been married for 34 years to my best friend, Jim. I have two children,
William who is 33 and Whitney 31. I also have a tortoise shell cat named Rolly. I went to school in Dodge City
and graduated in 1983. While being a stay at home mom, I coached boys and girls baseball in Dodge City. At
the age of 35 years old I started college. In 2012, after many years in college and coaching, I became a
teacher. I have a Masters in Education, with an ESL certification from Newman University. I am certified in
elementary education, and middle school ELA, Social Studies, and Science. I love teaching. I have taught in
huge districts, small districts and private Catholic districts. This past year I have been
teaching in Putnam City Schools in Bethany Oklahoma. I have mostly taught
6th grade, either in self-contained classrooms or at the middle school level.
So why did I apply at Fowler USD 225, in Kansas? Well, first of all it’s a small
rural district in Kansas, and I wanted to move home. I grew up in Dodge City,
but home is Kansas. I also wanted to work somewhere I and my husband could
settle down and become part of a community. We haven’t done that in the
past few years, and it’s time. I don’t just want to work at a school, I want to
work for a school district, and live in that community and be part of that
community.
Mrs. Wise, Intervention Specialist
I am Debbie Wise, I have been at Fowler since 1984. I received both my
bachelor’s and master’s degrees from FHSU. I am currently the Title 1
instructor for K-6th as well as the grade school librarian. My son and
daughter are graduates of Fowler High School. In my spare time I
volunteer with the AWANA program as club commander. I enjoy working
with youth through school, church, and 4H activities.
Mrs. Walker, GS Special Education
I am a mother of three children. My husband and I
just celebrated our 29th anniversary. I
love motorcycle riding, horses and dogs. My passion is
to create an environment where students feel safe
and incorporate a curriculum to allow students to
learn at their own pace.
Mrs. Rickard, HS Special Education
I just finished my 9th year teaching Special Education. Also, I
serve as a member of the Autism team for SKACD #613. I am
married and live with my husband, Cory, and our four sons,
Sam, Ace; and twins Tre and Tag on the XIT ranch, south of
Plains, Kansas. I love teaching children with special education
needs. I enjoy time spent being a boy mom; riding on the ranch;
vegetable and flower gardening; reading; cooking; and watching
the boys rodeo and 4H.
Mr. Bollinger, Distance Learning Lab Facilitator
I am the Distance Learning Lab Facilitator for Fowler High
school. I am currently finishing my teaching degree in math and
science and will complete licensure by the end of this upcoming
school year. I am married to Mrs. Rainna Bollinger and we have
a newborn child, Rhydian. Rainna and I both love Fowler and
are greatly anticipating the upcoming year!
Welcome Ms. Adams to English
My name is Megan Adams, and I’m an eighth-generation Kansan
coming to you by way of the bayou. I graduated from Hays
High School in Hays, Kansas, and received my B.A. in English
from Fort Hays State University. Afterwards, I joined AmeriCorps
as an interventionist in mathematics and ELA with behaviorally
and academically challenged students, and served at SciTech
Academy in New Orleans, Louisiana, where I’ve lived for the past
few years. I’m currently working towards my M.S. in Education
from FHSU while I return to my roots and my family in Kansas.
In my free time, I go camping, play the bass, and spend time
with my nieces, brothers, and sister. I chose to work for USD No.
225 because I want teach about the new possibilities and challenges faced by English students
today, and because I see a strong potential for excellence in Fowler’s students. I’m thrilled to join
the Goldbug team as your high school ELA instructor!
Welcome Mr. Coverdale to Math & Science
Mr. Coverdale is a retired teacher with 20+ years
experience teaching science in the Ashland and
Bucklin school districts. He has also coached a
variety of sports and activities.
Welcome Mrs. Ziebart to Business & Technology
My name is Tiffany Ziebart and I will be teaching business and computers at Fowler High
School. I am excited for the opportunity to come to Fowler for several reasons.
First off, I am excited to be apart of such a tight knit community with
strong ties to the school and students. Secondly, because it will allow for
a closer commute, which means more school and community
involvement for myself and my family. For the past 5 years I have
taught Business and Marketing as well as Health & PE at Liberal High
School in Liberal, KS. While in Liberal I had several opportunities to
coach and advise student organizations. Although my time at LHS has
been great I cannot wait to start a new chapter in my career at FHS. I
currently live in Meade with my husband Chad, two daughters, Taylor
(7) and Oakley (5 months) and our dog Jazzy. Our favorite hobbies are
hunting, camping, and having back yard BBQ’s with family and friends.
Welcome Mr. Maynard to Physical Education and Football
My name is Craig Maynard, and I am from Palo Alto, California. My
family and I are looking forward to joining the Fowler community as
it seems to be a great place to raise children and fits our family well.
I have been teaching and coaching high school football in Southwest
Kansas for the past 7 years. I am a 2009 graduate of OPSU with my
Bachelor's Degree in Health & Physical Education Recreation
(HPER). After playing NCAA football and baseball, I believe sports
are great for building relationships and camaraderie. We're ready to
make a positive impact in the community and in the school district.
It's a GREAT DAY TO BE A GOLDBUG !
Welcome Ms. Federau to Ag Class
My name is Cheyenne Federau, I grew up on my family farm, where I have returned to after
graduating from FHSU with a Bachelor's degree in Agriculture. Over the last year, I have been
working for the USDA doing market reports on livestock and grain in their office in Dodge City. I
have decided to become an educator at Fowler Jr./Sr. High
School because I feel that our community truly needs a program
to teach students skills for careers in our area. Through
agriculture education and FFA we can achieve this. FFA gives
students opportunities to learn job skills by showing them real life
scenarios. The organization grows leaders and teaches
responsibility through Career Development Events, Supervised
Agricultural Experiences, and it's commitment to community
service and giving back to the community. I am so excited for this
opportunity for not only myself; but for the students, school, and
for Fowler. Go Goldbugs!
Welcome Mr. Bland to Social Science
Hi I'm Troy Bland and I am a recent graduate from Fort Hays
State University. I am originally from Lucas KS, a small town
midway between Hays and Salina and enjoyed growing up in
a small town which is what led me to pursuing a teaching
position in Fowler. I look forward to the coming school year
and growing as a teacher and growing with Fowler and the
students in it.
Welcome Mrs. Granados to Music/Band
Jan Granados lived in Fowler from 1990-1993, and returned to
Fowler in 2006. She holds a BS in Biology and minor in music
from Sterling College, a Doctorate in Pharmacy and minor in
Chemistry from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and
Master of Public Health from the University of Kansas. She has
accompanied the bands and choirs at Fowler since returning in
2006. Jan and her husband have four children, Lexi, Lia, Alli, and
Carter.
