TORONTO 2015 Games Stand Tall through New Partnership with CN Tower
Iconic Toronto landmark named Official Attraction of the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games
TORONTO September 10, 2014 — Look up, look way up. The biggest Games in Canadian history are
teaming up with one of the tallest buildings in the world to act as a beacon showcasing the spirit of the
TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games for all to see in downtown Toronto.
Named the Official Attraction of the Games, the 553.33-metre-high CN Tower will use its 1,330 state-ofthe-art super bright LED lights to transform the tallest free-standing structure in the Americas and
Caribbean into a stunning display of the official colour palette of the Games.
“The CN Tower is honoured to play a special role in taking the visibility of the TORONTO 2015 Games to
an all-time high,” said Jack Robinson, chief operating officer of the CN Tower.
“We’re an important iconic landmark in Canada and will be highly visible as a beacon of excitement for
the Games to spectators, athletes, visitors and residents alike as they enjoy the thrilling sport
competitions throughout downtown Toronto next summer.”
The CN Tower will have an important role throughout the Games and will play a role in the Opening
Ceremony at the nearby Pan Am Ceremonies Venue, 1 Blue Jays Way, as part of a spectacular fireworks
display.
The partnership will also enable the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am/Parapan Am Games Organizing Committee
(TO2015) to use the CN Tower Plaza hot spot and other facilities to promote the Games in one of the
city’s busiest tourist attractions — the landmark averages more than 1.5 million visitors annually.
“The CN Tower is one of Toronto’s most iconic symbols and is recognized around the world,” said Saäd
Rafi, TO2015’s chief executive officer. “Already, the Tower has been a tremendous supporter of the
Games, from stocking the CN Tower Gift Shop with Games gear to hosting important events such as the
launch of our PACHI plush toy. In 2015, this unique partnership will help illuminate the city with the Pan
Am spirit for all to see.”
Built in 1976, the CN Tower held the record for world’s tallest tower, building and free-standing
structure for more than three decades. It remains the tallest structure in the Americas and Caribbean. It
is owned by Canada Lands Company, a Crown corporation.
The CN Tower joins previously announced members of the TORONTO 2015 sponsor family, including:
Lead Partner CIBC; Premier Partners Atos, Chevrolet Canada, Cisco, Live Nation Entertainment, and
Loblaw Companies Limited; Opening Ceremony Creative Partner Cirque du Soleil; as well as Official
