In a back and forth shootout between the Steamers and the Rockets, the Steamers prevailed in a dog fight that lasted until the final seconds of the game. The boys were more than pleased to take home the title of conference champions, something the Steamers haven't done since 2002. Fulton started out strong ending the first quarter with a lead of 14-7. Like any other game of the season, the Steamers chance of winning was looking up. This was all until the fourth quarter, with two minutes and fifteen seconds left when the Rockets scored a touchdown and a two point conversion putting the Rockets ahead 27-21. ¨I knew after the fumble in their territory, that the game was nowhere near to being over,” stated senior quarterback Tyler Sweenie. ¨There was still way more than enough time for our offense to score. I had a ton of confidence going into the last drive.¨ With 49 seconds left, Sweenie threw a pass to junior running back Austin Schroeder for a touchdown to tie it up. Senior kicker Cole McClary´s kick was good, ending the game 28-27, with the Steamers taking the win. The previous time these two teams met, the Rams stole the win three sets; 25-20, 23-25, 26-24. The Steamers this time prevailed in two sets 25-10, 25-13. Junior outside hitter Brooke Huizenga led the team in kills with five, freshman outside hitter Emily Schipper was close behind with four. The Player of the Game was awarded to senior middle hitter Jordan Price who had three kills, one ace, three blocks, and six digs. Though that was the last conference game for both Riverdale and Fulton, it might not be the last time these two teams see each other. Starting Monday, October 23rd the Rams are set to host the IHSA Regional tournament. Fulton will play the winner of Prophetstown vs Morrison the following night on Tuesday. If both Riverdale and the Steamers win their respective Semifinal games, they would then play each other for the Regional title. “Beating one of the top teams in our conference really showed us what we are capable of for postseason.” replied junior defensive specialist Morgan Griebel. Teen Read Week is a national literacy initiative of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), a division of the American Library Association. The non-fiction, graphic novels, and biographies have all been boxed up until now with the renovation of the library over the summer. The new book shelves have just arrived and the nonfiction collection will again be available for students to check out. The students have been anxious for the "Who Was" series to be available for checkouts. This series of books are nonfiction and biographies that are modern, concise, and have Accelerated Reader comprehensive tests. Students in the middle school will also be receiving a special treat for Teen Read Week and new bookmarks. As Dr. Seuss says “The more that you read, the more things that you will know. It was a great learning experience and I had a lot of fun competing with my uncle though, that's all I wanted. What is a CrossFit competition like? I have only competed in one competition so far. There were about 30 teams, split into different divisions. There's a men's division, a women's division, and a combined division. You are split into separate heats and given your own area in the gym that is set up with all your weights. Each heat starts at the same time and is timed on their lifts.
