The 45 Club v The Vectians, (a team representing the Isle of Wight) Monday 5th and Tuesday 6th June 2017 The 45 Club is pleased to announce that a fifth encounter has been scheduled for this year and we are hoping to improve the result of last year, (we currently stand at 2 matches each). Venue The match will take place at the Ryde Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club - http://www.rltcc.co.uk/ - on artificial and natural grass courts. Teams and Format 8 ladies and 8 men are needed, and we expect that the IOW team will be competitive – they beat us last year! If you regularly play in 45 Club events, even if you don’t necessarily make the ‘Championship Boxes’ in the afternoon please don't be put off as you will play some very enjoyable and competitive tennis. The first day will be Mixed Doubles 45 Club and locals (16 pairs) Each day’s play will start at 10.00 and finish at around 5.00. The Ryde Club will provide lunch and a meal at the end of the day. Enter as an individual – you do not need a partner and you can play just one day if you wish. Please clearly indicate which day you can play if only 1 day. Travel Arrangements Owing to everyone’s varied circumstances, we are asking you to make your own travel arrangements. If you are travelling by car the most direct ferry route is from Portsmouth to Fishbourne, run by Wightlink - http://www.wightlink.co.uk/. The alternative route is from Southampton to East Cowes, run by Red Funnel - http://www.redfunnel.co.uk/. The return fare varies from between around £90 and £115, but this charge is for your car, and so it will be more economical the greater number of passengers you have. If you are going across the water as a foot passenger your destination will be Ryde and the return fare is around £25. Unless you want to walk from East Cowes, (not advised!!), you must use the Wightlink service to Ryde. Accommodation Owing to people’s varying situations, we are going to ask you to arrange your own accommodation. Last year the 45 Club booked accommodation at the Dorset Hotel -http://www.thedorsethotel.co.uk/ - which is a very short distance from the Club. Typically, an en-suite single room at the Dorset House for 3 nights will cost around £180, (including breakfast). If you use Red Funnel, you can book a combined ferry/hotel booking at the Dorset House and get a 25% discount on the ferry fare. There is other B & B accommodation, notably the Sorrento Lodge http://www.sorrentolodge.co.uk/index.html. A double or twin room is £70 per night, also including breakfast. You will need to contact the proprietor to book, (Sue on 01983 812813 or [email protected]). Also try Booking.Com they do have good deals and you can cancel right up to a day before Other Costs The Ryde Club will provide lunch and an evening meal on each day, the cost of which will be £20 per person per day. The match fee, per day, will be £15 per person. Thus the total cost will be £70 for the two days, £35 if you are only playing on one day. For those of us lucky enough to have played in this fixture before know you will have a wonderful time. The Ryde Club are extremely friendly and look after us fantastically well and the tennis isn’t too bad either!
