Preparation for your week as a @WeSpeechies Curator
1
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THIS FORM
Please return your completed form at least two weeks before your week, as an email attachment, to the
Administrators [email protected] and [email protected]. When completing the
form please use Arial 10pt and no bold, italics, underlining, colour, bullet points, or other formatting.
When you return this form, please confirm you have read the 2016 Curator Guide <<click
1. Bio to be converted to a png and posted to the @WeSpeechies profile page while you curate
To fit into the png, your thumbnail bio should be no more than 130 words – shorter looks better! Include
your Twitter handle, interests, qualifications and experience in lay terms, etc. Include web links if you wish,
but note that they will not be ‘clickable’ in your png. You can see other bios linked in blue here if you need
ideas. Avoid using abbreviations that may be unfamiliar to non-SLPs/SLTs, and that our international
followers may not know. Please write your bio here:
2. Location, time zone and contact details: please complete
CITY/TOWN/VILLAGE:
STATE/PROVINCE/REGION:
COUNTRY:
EMAIL ADDRESS / ADDRESSES:
TWITTER HANDLE:
YOUR CURRENT (at the time of your week) TIME ZONE IN FULL (e.g., Eastern Daylight Time):
THE CUSTOMARY ABBREVIATION FOR YOUR CURRENT TIME ZONE (e.g., EDT):
3. First Tweet, Tuesday Chat, Last Tweet from the @WeSpeechies handle: please complete
Bronwyn and Caroline prefer to be on hand for your first, last and chat Tweets. Unless we are overseas
we are in Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST) or Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT). You can
use TIMEBIE to compare AEST/AEDT with your time zone, and set times to suit you and us.
The time in your time zone you will send your first tweet on the Sunday that you start:
The time in your time zone you will hold your 1 hour #WeSpeechies Chat on the Tuesday:
The time in your time zone you will send your final tweet on the Saturday that you finish (please aim to
finish by Saturday 10:00am AEST/AEDT):
4. Topic Title for the week (this will also serve as the title for your Tuesday #WeSpeechies chat)
The title should be clear, reflecting what the week will be about. Avoid expressions and abbreviations that
might be difficult for an international readership. Please write your topic title here:
5. Chat topic description
Please write a 200- to 350-word (longer if you like) introduction to your chat topic. This is a ‘lead-in’ to your
four chat questions. We are happy to receive a ‘first draft’ and develop it with you, collaboratively. There
are examples of chat topic descriptions here. Please write your description here:
6. Four chat questions comprised of 140 characters including Q1 etc., and #WeSpeechies
Please compose four questions. This is probably the trickiest part (!) so again, feel free to send draft
questions to give us a fix on what you have in mind, and we will help you refine them if necessary. The
question must begin with Q1, Q2, Q3 or Q4 followed by a space (no punctuation) and include the hashtag
#WeSpeechies (not necessarily at the end). There are examples of chat questions here. Please write your
four questions here:
Q1 #WeSpeechies
Q2 #WeSpeechies
Q3 #WeSpeechies
Q4 #WeSpeechies
Tell family, colleagues, friends, etc., but don’t spill the beans in Twitter or other Social Media!
The Administrators will introduce you as curator on the Sunday, in a Tweet with your bio .png attached.
Please do not announce in social media that you will be curating @WeSpeechies before the bio .png is
posted. The Administrators do so on the day you start, because: (1) It leaves the audience’s attention on
the curator for the week that is currently underway. (2) It helps maintain a level playing field for all
curators. (3) News travels quickly in Twitter, so there is no need for building up ‘hype’ for a particular
curator. We can build up hype for the topic instead. (4) It is one of the few surprises that we can build into
the process. (5) Sometimes curators pull out at the last minute, and the rest of our followers do not need
to know this about the curator, nor the reason. Not announcing who is curating removes any need to
explain that they are not curating. In that sense, it’s a privacy thing.

7. Journal Articles and other readings
There are detailed instructions for how to select and request articles for your week here:

Please read the instructions carefully, and list your requested articles here:
Plan Your Tuesday Chat
Include the #WeSpeechies hashtag in every Tweet during the Chat and encourage others to do the
same, so that all the Tweets are included in the Transcript. Note that at other times during the week
there is no requirement to include #WeSpeechies in Tweets. Be mindful of the potential pitfalls of
sending scheduled Tweets during the chat, and throughout the week.
