FORM B - PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT NEEDS ASSESSMENT
A professional can objectively evaluate their own practice and in turn, recognize and address those areas of
professional development that may exist. Many different tools can be used.
The duties framework was
established after careful review of state and national standards. A career and technology education teacher is
responsible for an instructional program that aligns industry and academic standards for student success. The
teacher will take the actions listed below which are divided into five areas:

Professional Growth and Continuous Improvement
Interpersonal Skills

Prepare equipment, tools, materials and consumables to deliver
curriculum.
Prepare instructional environment for safe and effective teaching.
Establish and provide standards of conduct and implement with

Arbitrate, prevent and manage classroom conflicts in a professional
manner, while demonstrating sensitivity to students’ affective states.
Use best practices related to motivation and behavior to create learning
environments that encourage positive social interaction, workforce
readiness, self-motivation and active engagement.

and guidelines outlined by the school, the district, state and federal laws

and industry standards.
Collaborates with students to create classroom climate and procedures
focused on creating a safe and respectful environment in which everyone
can learn.
 Develop instructional plans that address student diversity, interests, and
varied learning styles through differentiated instruction.
 Develop instructional plans based on ODCTE/industry standards and
analysis of stakeholder data.
 Adapts instruction based upon daily assessment and reflection.
 Create and use strategies to manage project based learning.
 Plan lessons that are innovative and interactive with real-world application
and problem solving that require critical thinking skills at all levels.
 Develop and use a variety of assessment strategies to evaluate and modify
the teaching/learning process ensuring the continuous intellectual, social,
and physical development of the learner.
 Provide adequate and timely feedback to monitor progress and
achievement.
 Create a series of interventions for students who fail to reach proficiency.
 Demonstrate respectful and appropriate interactions with students that
convey high expectations and fosters growth.
 Guide students to appropriate resources for academic, career and personal
development.
Instructional Effectiveness













Develop instructional plan that assures linkages between occupational
tasks and literacy.
Embed literacy strategies (the practice of reading, writing, spelling,
listening and/or speaking) into the development of course objectives and
instructional plans.
Recognize and implement numeracy strategies when appropriate.
Deliver lessons that incorporate technical and academic standards along
with 21st century skills.
Integrate scholastic, leadership and community service activities in
curriculum.
Develop opportunities for and place students in workplace
learning/project-based learning.
Create an inclusive classroom culture that is accepting of diverse learning
needs.
Use appropriate questioning techniques at various levels during the
instructional process.
Understands curriculum integration processes and uses a variety of
instructional strategies to encourage students' development and critical
thinking, problem solving, and performance skills and effective use of
technology.

Provide clearly stated directions for learning objectives, procedures and

Use monitoring techniques to determine student progress toward stated
objectives/competencies.
 Consistently monitors student involvement and makes effort to adjust
instructional plans to engage more students.
 Reviews data from assessments to modify instruction and guide
intervention strategies
 Use a variety of student response techniques to increase active
engagement.
 Summarize instruction and connect learning to prior and future instruction.
 Develop and use modified assessments and curriculum for special needs
students and other students experiencing difficulties in learning.
 Adhere to accommodations and modifications in accordance with
individualized student plans (e.g., an IEP / 504 plans).



Utilize appropriate professional development to improve instruction and
learning results.
 Maintains education/industry certifications/licenses where applicable
 Participate in school-based continuous improvement initiatives.
 Exhibit ethical and professional behaviors by following policies,
procedures, practices and guidelines outlined by the school, the district,
state and federal laws and industry standards. (Notes: punctuality,
