Installing EndNote
Before you begin
Check device compatibility
What you need:

Mac OS X 10.6.x and later

Intel-based Macintosh

Hard disk with 400 MB available

Minimum 256 MB of available RAM
Microsoft Office® compatibility
Word processor software

Microsoft Word® 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 (use EndNote X6 for earlier versions)

Apple® Pages ’09; Apple® Pages 5
Internet
An Internet connection is required to register for online access, search online databases, find full
text and automatically update references.

Uninstall existing versions
If you already have a previous version of EndNote installed on your personal computer or laptop,
that version MUST be uninstalled before installing the new version. This will not affect existing
libraries.
1. Ensure that Microsoft Word® is closed.
2. Open Applications in a Finder window
3. You can drag and drop the EndNote application into the trash or right click and Move to Trash.
Getting EndNote
Downloading the software
1. Go to the Griffith University Library home page
2. Click on Study
3. Click Referencing and then Referencing software and apps
4. Click on EndNote
5. You need to be signed in to your Griffith University email account
6. Go to Downloading EndNote and choose the relevant link
7. Double-click on the EndNote folder (e.g. for EndNote X8, double-click on the Endnote X8
folder).
8. Choose the Mac folder
9. Double click EndNoteX8SiteInstaller.dmg icon to download the software.
10. Automatic download will occur, it will not be able to scan for viruses
Installing the software
1. Double click on the EndNoteX8SiteInstaller.dmg file in Downloads
2. Follow the prompts to install the software.
HINT: You can install this software as many times as required on other devices (providing that the
compatibility requirements are the same). Keep the EndNoteX8SiteInstaller.dmg file and copy it
to a known location (e.g. a USB stick or your H: drive so that you don’t have to download it again).
