The learners recognize and practice proper handling of products. Demonstrate proper disposal of waste according to the properties of materials . S4MT-Ic-d-3 Observe and read product labels. Explain the importance of reading product labels Lesson 6 : Importance of Reading Product Label Power point, product labels pp. 18-19 pp. 17-19 Survey form, parent’s permit, manila paper, plastic cup, rotten fruit, slice bread and other materials that decay fast. Empty boxes, packages or containers of different products ( milk, cereals, sardines ), empty bottles and boxes of over the counter medicines/ drugs, empty boxes or wrappers of detergents, empty containers with copies of labels of disinfectants and pesticides Review : materials that undergo decay Show different materials on the table ( materials that decay fast and materials that decay slowly Recall what properties of a material affect one’s health. Introduce materials at home which are manufactured products. IV. PROCEDURES A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson Show pictures or use power point presentation Show some packages, boxes or containers of these products Do the Activity 1 : What is the importance of reading product labels ? Discuss the findings and report them in class What can you say about the following places: riverside, swampy area, dumpsite Where do they throw their garbage ? Show pictures which show how water, air and land become polluted. Discuss the importance of knowing how to read product labels Can people benefit from compost ? explain your answer What are the effects of decaying materials to one’s health and safety ? Given a situation ask pupils what they should do to the product presented to them. Have the pupils read a product label , identify each information and tell the importance of it. Do evaluation items at TM p. 21 Draw a product commonly found in the kitchen. Read the labels and list it in Science notebook. Write a reflection TM p. 18 How can you make your environment a pleasant place to live in ? Have pupils state what are the important information needed to find in a product label.
