NATIONAL PRIMARY SCHOOLS KWIK CRICKET TOURNAMENT - 2015 RULES AND SCORING - OUTDOOR 1. TITLE 1.1 The title of the Competition shall be the ECB National Primary Schools KWIK Cricket Tournament. 1.2 The Competition shall be open to all schools in State Primary or Middle schools in Wales. 1.3 There will be a South Wales and a North Wales Final in July, 2015. 1.4 There will be no ECB National Finals in 2015. 2. QUALIFICATION OF PLAYERS 2.1 The Year 6 Competition is open to all pupils being taught in year group 6 or under. 2.2 The Year 5 Competition is open to all pupils being taught in year group 5 or under. 2.2 The Girls Competition is open to girls being taught in year group 6 or under. 2.3 Each team comprises of 8 players. Squads are limited to 10 players. 2.4 Quotas pertaining to mixed sex teams have been abolished. 3. PITCH 3.1 The game shall be played on a pitch 16 yards long, with bowling from 1 end only. 3.2 Boundaries – maximum of 35 metres apart but can be reduced to accommodate more matches. 4. THE GAME 4.1 The two teams toss a coin to decide which team has the choice of batting or fielding first. 4.2 Each innings will last 8 six ball overs; each player must bowl, overarm where possible. 4.3 KWIK cricket kit is mandatory, wooden bats may not be used 4.4 Players are not permitted to wear batting or wicket-keeping gloves 4.5 Orange KWIK cricket balls will be used. 5. BATTING 5.1 Players bat in pairs for 2 overs, with a new pair starting in the 3rd, 5th and 7th overs 5.2 Each team starts with 200 runs. 5.3 Each time a batter is out 5 runs are deducted and the other batter of the pair faces the next delivery. 5.4 Batters may run on any ball whether it is hit or not 5.5 A batter may be out bowled, caught, run out, stumped or hit wicket, at which point they change ends. 5.6 The LBW law will not be applied unless the batter deliberately blocks the ball from hitting the wicket. 5.7 A batsmen may hit a ‘no ball’ and if that shot results in 3 or more runs being scored, that score will count and the 2 runs for the no ball ignored 6. BOWLING 6.1 Each player must bowl 1 over, Overarm where possible and from one end only. 6.2 Only 6 balls to be bowled in any over, except in the final (8th) over of each innings. 6.3 At local/ district competition Overarm bowling should be encouraged with the first ball of each over overarm every time. If no amount of coaching and encouragement can achieve overarm bowling, even from a base start, then the rest of the over can be bowled underarm. 6.6 At County Finals underarm bowling is unacceptable and the ‘double bounce’ rule should be applied i.e. if the ball bounces more than ONCE, or rolls along the ground before it reaches the popping crease. 6.7 2 Runs will be awarded to the batting team for each wide ball and no ball bowled but no extra ball will be allocated, except in the final over of each innings when in addition to the 2 runs an extra ball will be bowled. 6.8 A no ball shall be called if, with the batter in a normal stance at the crease, the ball 6.8.1 passes above the batters waist not having bounced first 6.8.2 passes over the batters shoulder after bouncing 6.8.3 bounces more the ONCE before reaching the batter 6.9 A wide ball shall be called if, with the batter in a normal stance at the crease, the ball is too far away from the batter to strike it. 6.9.1 A ball will not be called a wide, no matter how wayward, if the batsmen does hit it. 7. FIELDING 7.1 With the exception of the wicketkeeper no fielder is allowed within 10 yards of the batter until the ball is played. A fielder may move into the restricted area to field a ball provided he/she was outside the area when the stroke was made. 7.2 Players on the fielding side DO NOT need to rotate fielding positions. SCORING 8.1 Add 2 extra runs to the team score for each no ball or wide bowled by the opposing team. 8.2 Extras should not be added to the batters score except no balls where additional runs are scored (example – a no ball is bowled and the batter hits it for 4 – this goes on the batters score and the team score – overall team runs scored for this delivery is 4). 8.3 Score sheets will be provided by the event organiser 9. RESULT OF MATCH 9.1 The team with the highest score wins. 9.2 A tied game is acceptable ‐ a tied game is both teams score the same amount of runs, net of wickets taken. 9.3 Points are awarded as follows at the group stage 9.3.1 Win 3 points 9.3.2 Tie 2 points 9.3.3 Loss 1 point 9.4 In the event of a tie on points at the group stage, positions are determined as follows 9.4.1 if two teams are level in a group with the same number of points, the winner will be the team which won the match between the two teams. 9.4.2 if that match ended in a tie, the winner will be the team with the higher net aggregate total of runs (runs (-) wickets) through the group stage. 9.5 The higher net aggregate total of runs (runs (-) wickets) will also determine the best runner-up at the Pool stage. If this is level the team taking the highest number of wickets will qualify. 10. ORGANISERS DECISION 10.1 In all matters relating to the competition the event organiser’s decision shall be final and binding. 10.2 In the event of bad weather for the District, County and Wales Finals where possible a winner will be determined by a skills challenge.
