Could you be the Cornwall Young Folk Musician of the Year?
The Cornwall Young Folk Musician competition encourages young people to sing and play
traditional and modern folk music on their own and as part of bands. It is part of the Cornwall
Folk Festival 2015, which runs between Friday August 28th and Monday August 31st in
Wadebridge, Cornwall.
You can sing alone, in a band or play your instrument. You can write your own music or
perform traditional folk music or covers of modern folk music.
And if you reach the finals, you’ll be up on the main stage performing with professional
folk musicians as part of the Cornwall Folk Festival on August Bank Holiday Monday!
There will also be cups presented to all class winners. All winners of solo classes will also be
awarded a music scholarship to support their musical studies.
There are two age groups: 11-14 and 15-18. The heats will be held during the last two weeks
of May in Truro, Wadebridge and Redruth, to encourage as many young people as possible
from all over Cornwall to participate. There are no entry fees.
The finals will be held on the last day of the Cornwall Folk Festival, Monday 31st August in
Wadebridge on the main stage of the Folk Festival. Adjudicators will include professional folk
musicians, who are performing as part of the Folk Festival. Details will be confirmed later.
The classes are:
Classes 1-2 Young Folk Musician solo singer (with or without accompaniment) (2 age groups)
Classes 3-4 Young Folk Musician any instrument (with or without accompaniment) (2 age groups)
Classes 5-6 Young Folk Band (2 or more people) (2 age groups)
