(1) Objective of the Unit

・Foster a positive attitude toward
the importance of interacting with others through activities based on asking for

(2) Expectations
・Students should be polite when asking for directions and consider the listener when giving directions.

○Interact with friends by telling someone how to get somewhere by giving directions in English and
receiving directions to arrive at one’s desired location.
・Play the Giving Directions game with classmates and AET.
(7) Important Additional Notes and References to Other Subjects
・Have students experience firsthand the joy of communicating in English by having them ask someone to repeat
themselves if it is unclear what was said, and by following directions to arrive at a desired location.
・Remind students that saying “Excuse me.” before asking a question and “Thank you.” afterward, show respect to
the person with whom one is speaking and should always be spoken clearly.
