Workshop Overview:
Teaching is a challenging job and the only certainty in education is change.
However asking teachers to change what happens in their classrooms or their
performance can create a sense of fear.
This workshop will consider the need for sensitivity to individual needs and the
understanding that the status quo is easier than changing practice. We will
investigate the strategies the change agent might utilise to inspire stakeholders to
shift feelings of loss to feelings of growth and empowerment.
Presenter:
Dr Angela Douglas is Principal of Ironside State School, St Lucia. She completed a
doctorate examining leadership in Indigenous Education, and she is also interested in staff
empowerment, accountability and the provision of effective professional development to
bring about sustained change in schools. Dr Angela Douglas is working with the UQ School
of Education to implement stronger connections between teacher education campus-based
courses and the school-based component of these programs. Angela is particularly
interested in innovative practices that enhance teacher performance.
