The Way To Go GREEN
Join The Fight That’s Right
Become a Partner in Prevention
NJ TRANSIT is inviting the business community to
“go green” and do your share for cleaner air by
encouraging your employees to take public transit on
days when high levels of air pollution are predicted.
Through the OzonePass program, NJ TRANSIT will
share the fare with your employees who leave their cars
at home and commute to and from work on its bus, train
and light rail services. OzonePass, a special $2.70
round trip ticket, is valid on forecasted Air Quality Action
Days during ozone season, May 12 through September
5, 2008. Participating in the OzonePass program is an
environmentally responsible means of meeting the
commuting needs of your employees and promoting
clean air.
When join with NJ TRANSIT in the fight for cleaner air
and take advantage of OzonePass, you become a
member of the Air Quality Partnership. The partnership
is an organization of over 500 businesses, non-profits
and government agencies throughout New Jersey,
working to foster awareness of the ozone pollution
problem. Its mission is to encourage corporate and
individual actions to reduce ozone and other harmful
pollutants from the air, thus decreasing the negative
effects on public health and the quality of life. As a
partner, you can purchase a limited number of passes
at the start of ozone season and distribute them to
employees on Air Quality Action Days. You can
subsidize the pass in its entirety or sell it to your
employees for the $2.70 round trip cost. This year “go
green” and join in the efforts to rid the environment of
poisonous pollutants. For a healthier tomorrow, join the
Air Quality Partnership today. (See back of pamphlet
for application to join the Air Quality Partnership).
Ozone Pollution Affects Everyone
An invisible gas, ground-level ozone is created when a
mixture of pollutants such as fumes from vehicles,
lawnmowers, barbecues, or emissions from power
plants and industrial facilities react in sunlight on hot
summer days. In the upper atmosphere, ozone forms a
shield that protects the earth from the sun’s ultraviolet
rays. At ground level, ozone is a pollutant that can
cause shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing,
headaches and eye and throat irritation. People with
respiratory diseases, such as emphysema, bronchitis,
pneumonia and asthma have more trouble breathing
when the air is polluted. These effects are worse in
children, the elderly and people who work outdoors.
Air Quality Action Day Alerts
The day before unhealthy ozone pollution levels are
expected, the Air Quality Partnership will notify
members by e-mail or fax. You can then make
OzonePass available to the employees who will use it to
commute on NJ TRANSIT instead of driving their cars
and contributing to the pollution buildup. Partnership
members can order anytime during the ozone season
by simply completing the attached order form and
sending it along with a company check for the entire
amount of the order. A maximum of 250 passes (500
tickets) can be purchased for each worksite during the
ozone season. Each pass consists of two one-way
tickets to complete the round trip. At the end of the
season, you can return all remaining unused passes for
a full credit.
