Newsletter June 2016 F O R E S I G H T CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGE - ALERT BAGC is currently a private members club. We are unincorporated. Committee is preparing a proposal to bring to our next AGM that recommends we change to become incorporated i.e. a LIMITED COMPANY. The main reasons for this change are because it will provide better protection to Members, Trustees, Staff and Committee from personal liability in the event of financial loss or other legal claims. Many golf clubs are already incorporated and there is an ever increasing amount of professional advice suggesting that those that are not should consider doing so sooner rather than later. There are some potential adverse financial implications of this change. These include the possible loss of our CASC status that enables us to access Gift Aid and Rate relief. We would have to re-apply for registration as a new body and cannot be certain of the outcome. If we fail to re-register the loss of Gift Aid and Rate relief amounts to £29K. If you have any views on this matter at this time please send them in writing to the Secretary. JESSICA HALL Jessica won the North of England Schools championship at Ponteland on 3rd June shooting rounds of Par and 2 over to win by three shots. This is in addition to the Durham Schools championship she won at Beamish Park earlier this year. She now goes forward to the National championships to be held later this month. Jessica has now risen to 36 in the World Junior Girls Rankings after several good finishes over the last 12 months. DEFIBRILATOR REMINDER There will be an Awareness Session for anyone wishing to attend and familiarise themselves with the use of this on Thursday 23 June from 6.00 pm - 8.00 pm. We can accommodate up to 40 people for this so please do come along. If you intend to come please give your name to the Office so that we can control numbers. CAPTAIN’S COURTESY ROUNDS Each year a number of clubs in the area send the Captain a voucher for a courtesy 4ball. Baz would like to offer these on a first come, first served basis to members at a cost of £40 to go towards his chosen charity. The vouchers will be offered in the newsletters over the coming months and are valid over the whole year. A number have already been taken. Please request and pay at the Office. Answers on final Page ENCOURAGING NEW MEMBERS A plea to everyone please to encourage any female friends or family to take a look at getintogolf.org where they can book a place on a free taster session and/or take it further with 5 hours of coaching with our own Professional, Mike Pilgrim for the very reasonable price of £25. Golf clubs are provided and it's a great way to 'have a go' in a relaxed informal atmosphere. FREE Taster sessions are available on Thursday 30 June and Sunday 10 July. Coaching sessions run from Thursday 7 July to 4 August and from Sunday 17 July to 7 August. If any ladies would like to have a chat with Liz Bailey or Sue Wright to learn a bit more about it we are more than happy to help. If any member of the club - lady or gentleman, would like to help with developing a follow-on programme to take interested ladies forward with their game then we would be delighted to have you join us. Your club needs you and in particular it needs more ladies please help if you can. In addition, we also need more juniors to come through the club so again, please encourage any youngsters interested to come along to the junior section. Following the successful Trigolf session last month when over 100 junior school pupils visited the club for a fun tournament it would be a shame not to build on that. WHOLE IN 1 GOLF The package we have received consists of: 1 Course flyovers, available on our website and on items below. 2 Free iPhone and android app with GPS, flyovers and some links to the Club website. 3 Golf TV channel in lounge and Pro’s shop playing the flyovers Continuously throughout opening hours. 4 The final part of the jigsaw was put into place on Wednesday 8 June when 4 iPads were fitted to the buggies that the Pro hires out to members and visitors. These have GPS and the flyovers. This new facility has led to a £2 increase in the hire charge for visitors. The package was financed mainly by sponsorship, Whole in 1 Golf making the contacts from a list of local businesses given to them by the Club and £300 that we paid for a professional voice over for the flyover. We hope that members and visitors make use of what we feel is an exceptional package of technology.
