top dressing will begin at
6.00am until 3.30pm from

Therefore we ask players to
move onto the next hole if
greens staff are working.
GOLF RULES QUIZ (True / False) Thanks to Joe Doughty
1 Players A, B, and C tee-off in that order on the 1st tee. A scores a 5, B and C each score
4. The order of play on the next tee is B, C and A.
2 The player’s ball comes to rest on the imaginary out of bounds line between two out of
bounds posts. The ball is deemed to be out of bounds.
3 In a four ball better ball match play competition, all four balls are on the green. It is
player A’s turn to play, Player C does not mark and lift his ball, A’s ball strikes C’s
ball. Player A is penalised 2 strokes.
4 Players A & B hit their tee shots into the same area, both were playing the same make
of ball with identical numbers on them. Neither player had put an identification mark
on their golf ball. They could not determine which ball was A’s and which ball was
B’s. Both players had to declare their golf balls lost.
5 Due to wet conditions the Committee made a temporary local rule declaring that a ball
plugged into its own pitch mark, anywhere through the green, relief could be taken.
Lift, clean and drop. A players’ ball plugs into the bankside in front of our 6th green.
The player can take relief.
6 Before taking his shot a player replaces a divot approximately eight inches behind his
ball, and then proceeds to take his shot. The player incurs a two stroke penalty.
7 In a match play competition it’s player A’s turn to putt. Player B marks and lifts his
ball. As it’s A’s turn to play he asks B to replace his ball. Player B refuses. Player B is
penalised one shot.
8 In a stroke-play competition Players A, B and C hit their tee shots and start walking
towards their golf balls. After about eighty yards Player B thinks his ball could be lost
in the rough and informs his fellow competitors that he is going back to the tee box to
play a provisional. Player A informs him that if he plays a second ball from the tee-box
it counts as three off the tee.
9 A player’s ball lands on the path to the right of the 7 th hole and he wishes to take relief
under the local rule. The nearest point of relief is in the gorse bushes to the right of the
path. If he takes this option he has to drop the ball in the bushes.
10 Members carry refreshments with them when they go onto the course, unfortunately
some members, for reasons only known to themselves, show no regard for the state of
the course and, having consumed their refreshments, discard their empty tins and
wrappers on and around the course. Discarded tins and wrappers are moveable
obstructions.

SPONSORS’ GOLF DAY
On Friday 2nd September the club hosted a Sponsors' Golf Day. This was in recognition
to the many sponsors the golf club now has and ten teams competed for the newly-bought
trophy. Nearest the pin was won on the 7th by Stewart Breckon from 'Frame Team' and on
the 10th Tom Griffiths from 'Jogs 4 Dogs'.
Peter Goddard from 'AK Lighting' came without a partner so David Perriss the Secretary
joined Peter and claimed the winning score with 44 stableford points, narrowly beating
Stuart Moffatt and Kevin Johnson from Barrier Energy with 43.
The weather was kind and the course in great condition. An excellent buffet followed
along with the presentations.

day and David Oughton for helping with the organisation.
