GOLF RULES QUIZ (True / False)
In memory of Joe Doughty who produced these questions
1 A player has to drop his ball in a dropping zone. When he drops his ball it hits the
ground within the dropping zone. The ball rolls out of the zone but within two club
lengths. The ball is then in play.
2 A player’s ball comes to rest next to the style at the out of bounds fence on the 13 th
hole. The ball is deemed unplayable. The player takes relief under the penalty of one
stroke.
3 On an imaginary line between two out of bound posts, a player’s ball comes to rest
partly on the imaginary line and partly on the course. The ball is in bounds.
4 After a storm a branch breaks from the tree and falls onto the fairway. The branch is a
loose impediment.
5 A players ball comes to rest on the bridge over the water hazard in front of our 6 th
green. Because it is a manmade construction the player can take relief.
6 A player makes a practice swing on the teeing ground and accidentally catches his ball,
moving it approximately ten yards. He is entitled to re-tee his ball without penalty.
7 A player is entitled to see his golf ball while making a stroke.
8 A player has to identify his ball in a bunker before making a stroke.
9 A player who cannot identify his ball, lifts it without marking its position. He identifies
the ball as his own and replaces it. The player is penalised one penalty stroke for not
marking its position.
10A player loses his ball in the rough. The player and his fellow competitors start
searching. After two minutes the player declares his ball lost and starts back to where
his last shot was played. A fellow competitor found the ball within the five minutes
allowed and before the player reached the original spot from where the ball was last
played. Because the player declared his ball lost he has to play from the original spot.

Bill’s idea to put some art into
the dead tree on the right of the

of discussion.

CAPTAIN’S COURTESY ROUNDS
Each year a number of clubs in the area send the Captain a voucher for a courtesy 4ball.
Baz would like to offer these on a first come, first served basis to members at a cost of £?
whatever price you offer to go towards his chosen charity. The vouchers will be offered in
the newsletters over the coming months and are valid over the whole year. A number have
already been taken. They are generally for weekdays only.
Please request and pay at the Office.

STANDARD SCRATCH SCORE CONFIRMATION
Following the recent visit to the club by representatives from Durham County Golf Union,
we have received an official certificate of our Standard Scratch Score.
There are no changes to any of the tees which remain:
White 71
Yellow 70
Red 73
The rated length is slightly down against the recent independent measurement we had
done in advance of the above visit. The certificate quotes that this may be due to the
application of CONGU Dec 7.b.
This clause reads as follows:
“on a reassessment of an existing Standard Scratch Score the calculation must provide for
each hole being measured from a point not less than four yards forward of the back of
each tee”
