POLICY, RULES & GUIDELINES
Teams

Players are grouped according to age as follows : Under 9, Under 11 and Open. Ages are as of 31
December in the playing year eg Under 9 players cannot turn 9 at any time in the playing year. All
children in grades 1-6 are eligible to play. Foundation students do not generally play, but may by
exception.

Teams will desirably consist of 6-8 players. Teams will not have more than 10 players unless
necessary to accommodate existing players.

Acceptance of new players mid season at the discretion of the appointed coach and the organising
committee.

The number of teams and players within a team will be at the discretion of the appointed coach and
the organising committee.

Team grading according to ability (Section A through D) is done by DDPSB association.
Fees

Registration fees cover cost of team registration with DDPSB association, court hire for training at
DISC and associated costs.

Registration fees must be paid up front prior to commencement. Players that have not paid
registration fees are unable to play games.

Playing / game fees will be determined by the number of players in a team, and are payable at the
commencement of each term to the team manager.
Training

Each player must bring a size 6 basketball to training, and wear sports shoes and appropriate
clothes for training.

Each player must have a nominated adult attend and supervise at training sessions (this cannot be
the coach).

Attendance at training is for registered players only. Other children in attendance at training must
be supervised to ensure they do not interfere with training sessions.

Training will be Tuesdays or Thursdays @ DISC 3.45-4.45 (sometimes teams will be required to
train at school on a rotating roster due to lack of court space : this is dependent on court availability
and number of teams)
Uniform

Playing tops can be ordered through the club at a cost of approx. $30-$33 for new tops. A limited
selection of second hand tops may be available.

Navy basketball shorts can be purchased through usual retail outlets eg Target, KMART or Big W.

Games

The school competition is run by DDPSB. Games are played at Leeds St or DISC Stadium
(Donvale) on Saturdays. Generally girls play in the morning and the boys play in the afternoon.

All players are required at games 10 mins before scheduled start of game time for warm up.

Players must have short fingernails. No jewellery or plaited hair is permitted.

Players must play a minimum of 6 games representing Donvale to be eligible to play in finals.

If your child is injured/unable to play due to illness – please advise your coach and team manager.
If a long term injury/illness, DDPSB will take this into account when determining eligibility to play in
finals.

All parents/guardians will be asked to score as per roster.
General

Each child and parent must behave appropriately and with respect at all times when representing
Donvale Primary School.

Remember that all coaches are volunteers, and as well as the players the umpires are often
rookies – don’t take it too seriously!

