Performance Club Coach Job Opportunity Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club is building its coaching team for the 2014-15 ski season. As a member of the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club coaching team the coaches provide a safe, fun and progressive approach to the club athletes. The Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club is among the largest freestyle ski clubs and has the following objectives. To deliver high quality training programs and services to the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club athletes To grow the sport of freestyle skiing through increased enrollment in club programs To develop skiers for life in a safe and fun environment To prepare competitive ski athletes for BC and Canadian Freestyle ski competitions To develop and mentor future coaches To build and maintain world leading freestyle training and competition facilities Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club coaches have the entire programs interests front and center while giving the attention deserved to each and every athletes they serve. All the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club coaches work as a team to ensure they are the best they can be, the facilities are world leading and the athletes get the fundamentals they need to be successful at their pace in the long-term. The Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club is currently seeking a Performance Club Coach to serve one of the most successful freestyle ski clubs in Canada. Desirable Qualifications Grade 12 Post-Secondary education would be an asset Can Freestyle Super Coach (all modules) Competition Development Moguls and/or Slopestyle OR plan to pursue More qualifications are listed in Job Description Appendix A Skills and Attributes 5 or more seasons as an athlete at the club, provincial or national level 5 or more seasons as coach at the club, provincial or national level Considerable coaching experience in Free skiing, Moguls, Air, Park and Half Pipe Ability to organize and prioritize workload to ensure effective on and off snow operations Ability to practice prompt communications via phone, txt, email or in person as required Experience in managing conflict and finding resolutions Acts in a professional and ethical manner and demonstrates the ability to treat all equally Demonstrates the ability to be productive and have good work ethic Acts as desirable role model for children and teen agers Strives to lead a healthy and active life style Continued on page 2. 1 Communications and Reporting The Performance Ski Club Coach will report directly to the Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club Program Director or in their absence the Club President. The Performance Club Coaches may be asked to lead a team of coaches and athletes so it is very crucial that the coach have the ability to stay on task, stay focused on the medium / big picture while running daily operations cohesively. The Performance Club Coach will work closely the Program Director, other coaches, volunteers, and facility workers, facility operators to implement safe, fun and progressive programs to its member participants. From time to time the Performance Club Coach may be required to work with the Leadership Team that consists of the Program Director, President, Vice President and Treasurer. It is important that this coach has the ability to communicate with peers and superiors in a productive, efficient and professional manner. Both vertical and horizontal communications are required often daily and ongoing. Remuneration The position starts as full time seasonal and has the potential to be year around with part-time during summer months of the year. Remuneration is negotiable based on experience, coaching skills and availability. The busiest part of the year is November to April 15. Assist Silver Star Freestyle Ski Club in targeting and grouping performance level freestyle ski athletes for the competitive team program. 2. Provide targeted athletes with a yearly training and competitions plan that includes: a. A “train to train” yearly training plan spreadsheet that includes assessments, preparation and implementation of the following: dry-land training sessions/camps air training – trampoline, water ramp and on snow skiing skill training competition preparation and competitions on going nutritional and mental training preparation b. A strength and conditioning program c. A calendar of activities 3. Maintain an individual file on each targeted athletes that will include: a. Athletes short, medium and long term goals b. Bench marks set for targeted all athletes c. Evidence that the targeted athletes have met their benchmarks d. Athletes evaluations (2 - 3 per year) 4. Provide coaching for the targeted athletes at all training days and competitions in the yearly training plan. This will may vary based on the contract term. Must provide evidence by: a. tracking volume b. attendance of athletes c. lesson plans 5. Keep a high standard of evaluation and communications by doing the following: a. Perform self-evaluations and participate in coach evaluations with the program director. b. Provide athletes with an evaluation form to evaluate your services as their coach c. Conduct useful video review sessions (as required) to show athletes where they are related to specific skill benchmarks. d. Set and record bench marks for yourself as a coach e. Attend regularly scheduled coaching meetings and designated committee meetings f. Provide updates of teams efforts (every two – three weeks). g. Work closely with the club directors and communications personnel on newsletter and press release information. 6. *Responsible for course building and site maintenance including: a. Main and Mini Mogul Course Build b. Air Site c. Advocating with the Mountain on Slopestyle requirements, d. Communicating with Silver Star mountain management and SSFC Volunteer Coordinator regarding site maintenance for training and competition purposes. *This may vary depending on coaches availability and strengths 7. Self-Improvement and Education 3 a. b. c. d. e. f. **The performance coach must prove evidence of completing the comp dev freestyle coach training prior to the start of the season. Set a professional development plan for yourself at the beginning of each term (Spring / Fall). Provide evidence that you have implemented the plan after the plan concludes Attend Concussion workshop 1 time every 3 years. Take a basic first aid and CPR course 1 time every 2 years. Have a Class 5 Drivers license **This may vary based on coaches current status with certification 8. Will stay up to date and be familiar with and adhere to BC Freestyle policy and sport specific rules. Will contribute upon request to developing rules and policy. 9. Will work in cooperation with the SSFSC and club corporate and public partners to meet deliverable expectations on time. 10. Participate in training situation that integrate club athletes/coaches with BC Team athletes and coaches. 11. Be responsible for club equipment during the entire contract term. 12. Provide year-end report and other reports as requested by the Club. 13. Abide by all the provisions of the CFSA Coaches code of conduct. 14. All optional competitions outside of the BC Series events and additional training camps (i.e. Whistler Half Pipe Camps) dates and budgets need to be approved by the board. 4
