Special warning
The watch voice will need activating before first use. To switch the
voice on press and hold the Talk button for a few seconds until the
watch beeps twice. The speech will now be activated.
Before using the watch for the first time please remove the plastic
stopper from the winder (located at 3 o'clock). The stopper has
been put on to the winder to preserve the life of the battery for the
analogue part.
General description
RNIB talking calendar watches announce the time and date at the
touch of a button in a natural male English voice. These
instructions cover the following four watches: the large models with
a silver case, CW169 (with a leather strap), CW169EXP
(expanding strap), and the small models with a gold coloured case,
CW188 (leather strap) and CW188BEAD (beaded expanding
strap).
Orientation
With the watch facing towards you, you will notice a button at the 2
o’clock position. This is the Talk button, which announces both the
time and date and is also used to turn the speech on and off.
Below that at the 3 o'clock position is the winder to move the
hands.

The recessed Mode button is located at the 4 o’clock position, and
when used in conjunction with the Talk button sets the time, date
and alarm. Use either a ball point pen or opened out paper clip to
press this recessed button.
Using the product
Time and date announcement
Press the Talk button once and the watch will announce the time.
Press the Talk button twice in quick succession and the watch will
announce the date (day, date and month).
Turning the speech on/off
If not using the watch for a prolonged period you can turn the
speech off. Press and hold the Talk button for a few seconds (the
watch will announce the time while doing this) and will beep once.
If you press the Talk button again after this point there will be no
speech output.
To turn the speech on press and hold the Talk button for a few
seconds until you hear a double beep.
Setting the watch
Please note: If no button is pressed within two seconds when in
the mode settings the watch will beep and revert back to normal
time mode. Simply press the Mode button again to re-enter the
settings.
Setting the time
Press the Mode button and the watch speaks: "Set hour". Press
the Talk button to select the hour and then press the Mode button
to confirm and the watch speaks: "Set minute". Press the Talk
button to select the minute then press the Mode button to confirm
and the watch speaks: "Set year". You can either continue to set
the date or leave the watch to time out after a couple of seconds
and return to normal time mode.

To set the time on the watch face pull out the winder at the 3
o'clock position and rotate it until the hands are set to the same
time as the talking time and then press the winder in.
Setting the date
Press the Mode button until the watch speaks: “Set year”. Then,
press the Talk button to select the year and then press the Mode
button to confirm and the watch speaks: "Set month". Press the
Talk button to select the month before pressing the Mode button to
confirm and the watch speaks: "Set date". Press the Talk button to
choose the date (1-31) and then press the Mode button to confirm
and the watch speaks: "Set alarm hour".
You can either press the Mode button repeatedly until the watch
speaks: "Time" or you can wait a couple of seconds without
pressing any button and the watch will beep and then reverts back
to normal time mode automatically.
Setting the alarm
Press the Mode button until the watch speaks: "Set alarm hour"
and then press the Talk button to select the alarm hour. Press the
Mode button to confirm and the watch speaks: "Set alarm minute".
Press the Talk button to select the alarm minute before pressing
the Mode button to confirm and the watch speaks: "Set alarm".
Press the Talk button to toggle between alarm on/off and then
press the Mode button to confirm and the watch speaks: "Time"
and reverts to normal time mode.
Hints and Tips
If there is no speech output from the watch, check that the speech
hasn’t been turned off. Press and hold the Talk button until the
watch beeps twice and then the speech should be activated. If this
is not the problem, please replace the battery.

Please note: Talking watches are not water-resistant and should
not be kept in a damp place or immersed in water for any length of
time.
Battery replacement
It is recommended that you take your watch to a watch specialist
or jeweller to change the battery.
This watch is fitted with a lithium battery type CR2025 for the
speech; and a replacement battery is available from RNIB (product
code CP06).
The analogue movement is powered by one SR626SW battery.
