Copyright Regulations
The Digital Millennium Copyright Act
is a provision establishing limitation of
liability for infringement of copyright laws
by users of computing resources at
institutions of higher education. In
compliance with the rules of this act,
Auburn has designated an agent to
receive statutory notices from copyright
owners about infringements and to send
statutory notices to affected subscribers.

Excuse-Busters
• Everyone is doing it so the authorities will never single
me out for prosecution
• I didn’t know what I was doing was wrong
• I’m not hurting anyone
• My roommate said making a backup was okay
• There wouldn’t be a place on the web to download if it
wasn’t okay
Note: Legal action has been brought to AU students
from both the MPAA and the RIAA, resulting in severe
financial consequences and potential incarceration.

IS STEALING
I believe in honesty and truthfulness, without which I
cannot win the respect and confidence of my fellow
men…
I believe in obedience to law because it protects the
rights of all...
And because Auburn men and women believe in these
things, I believe in Auburn and love it.
-George Petrie (1945)
