How did it all start?
• Strategic initiative to define and formulate best practice processes and
procedures for all HEI’s, not only ITS system users
• 2001
 First best practice workshop was held in 2001 at the CSIR
Conference Centre in Pretoria for Payroll Administration
• 2002
 Best Practice workshop for Faculty Administration at the CSIR in
Pretoria
 Student Accounts Administration at the old Technikon SA
Conference Centre near Gold Reef City, Johannesburg
 Best practice workshop for Student Financial Aid Administration in
Pretoria
 Best practice workshop for the HEMIS / SAPSE Reporting held in
Pretoria
How did it all start?
• 2003
 Best Practice workshop for Human Resource Management in HEI’s held in
Pretoria
• 2006
 Best Practice workshop for Examination Administration in Higher and
Further Education Institutions held in Pretoria
• 2009
 Best Practice workshop for Student Residence Management in Higher and
Further Education Institutions held in Pretoria
• 2010
 Best practice for Marketing of FET’s in South Africa
Current Forums Administered
ITS Evula currently administers the following Forums that
were formed as a result of the Best Practice workshops:
• RAEI – Remuneration Association for Educational
Institutions
• HEFAF - Higher Education Faculty Administrators
Forum
• SAAF – Student Accounts Administrators Forum
• ExAF – Examination Administrators Forum
• Association for Marketing and Communication
Practitioners at FETC’s (not yet constituted)
So what happened to the other functions?
• Student Financial Aid Administration – Became FAPSA and
is self-administered
• HEMIS / SAPSE Reporting and MIS – Now dealt with by
SAAIR that is self-administered
• Human Resource Management at HEI’s – Feedback form
HR Directors Forum Administered by HESA is that they are
already dealing with ‘best practice’
• Student Housing Administration – The Best Practice draft
was taken further by ACUHO-I-SA Chapter
