Project management and monitoring of the
project progress
B. Implementation actions
The following three demostration plots (360 m2 each) will be
set up by PANTANELLO:
-Bernalda-Metaponto (MT): vertisol characterized by high
erosion and low water input;
-Bernalda-Pisticci (MT): overexplited cambisol with poor
vegetable cover;
- Bernalda-Metaponto (MT): poorly developed semi-arid
regosol
B.1 Demonstration of the innovative soil monitoring method through
a characterization of the initial soil conditions:
Samples of soil from the 3 demostration plots will be collected
(3 months) at 0-20 and 20-40 cm depth
B. Implementation actions
B.2 Demonstration of the addition of
exogenous organic matter to 3 different
types of soil
Responsable: Alsia
The NATURE (compost, fresh organic matter, sewage
sludge…) and the AMOUNT (about 20-25 kg m-2) of the
organic amendment will be estabilished on the base of
the initial soil conditions (action B.1).
The organic matter will be incorporated into the soil top
layer (0-20 cm depth).

B.3 Demonstration of BIOREM
revegetation strategies Responsable:
PANTANELLO
The plants will be chosen as to be well adapted to water
stress conditions and will depend on the initial soil
characterization (action 1.1).
The following plants could be selected: Pino halepensis,
Pistacia lentiscus.
The use of plants inoculated with micorrhizza might be
contemplated.

strategies
B. Implementation actions
The three selected fields will be set up and
managed by PANTANELLO (3-5 months)
Demostration plots (360 m2 each)
2.5 m wide strips will be left between sub-plots
During all the phases of the actions, photos and videos
will be taken

B.4 Demostration of the innovative biochemical monitoring
methodology
Soil samples from all the sub-plots will be collected every six months:
- immediately after the application of the remediation strategies (3-5 months)
- monitoring genetic plant with support of CNR Firenze
Each soil sample will consist of three subsamples collected at 0-20 and 20-40
cm depth
Each sample will consist of leaves plant used for soli regeneration
During these months, PANTANELLO will perform the ordinary management
and empirical monitoring of the involved soils.
PANTANELLO will provide environmental reports containing all the
environmentally relevant information gathered from the previous actions.

Soil samples from all the sub-plots will be collected every six months:
-immediately after the application of the remediation strategies (3-5 months)
-6 months later (10 months)
-12 months later (16 months)
-18 months later (22 months)
Each soil sample will consist of three subsamples collected at 0-20 and 20-40
