Welcome to Lake Park Audubon Community Ed
Welcome to Community Ed!
Lake Park Audubon Community Education is an extension of
the Lake Park Audubon School District, ISD #2889. Community
Education classes are open to everyone living in and around
our community. Our brochure is printed and inserted into the
Lakes Area Connection three times a year – Winter/Spring,
Summer and Fall/Winter. We strive to provide an interesting
and exciting mix of classes. Please browse our brochure. We
hope you find a class that looks interesting or helpful to you.
Plus, we are always on the lookout for new exciting ideas. We
welcome your feedback and ideas for future classes, and if
you have a talent you want to share in a class – let us know!

Registration
How to register? It’s simple! You can mail, call, email, or stop
by the Community Education office that is located at the LPA
High School, 611 Vigen Lane, Lake Park, MN. We’ll need your
name, address, phone number, email and the class you wish to
register for along with your payment. Payment is required to
hold your place. Once you are enrolled, all you have to do is
show up for the class. If you’d like, provide us with your email
address and we will send you confirmation of your class and
additional class details! Classes are filled on a first-come firstserved basis.
Cancellations & Refunds
Classes: A refund will be issued if you cancel 3 business days
before the class begins. After that you will be given an inhouse credit for future classes. You will be notified if a class is
full or has been canceled. If the class is full you will be put on
a waiting list. If an opening occurs or we add another class you
will be notified. If we cancel a class due to low enrollment a full
refund will be issued.
Trips/Events: Tickets purchased for offsite events that
include transportation are not refundable. These tickets are
purchased in advance and we are billed for them at that time.
If you need to cancel after the listed registration deadline, we
will only be able to refund you the portion of the fee that was
for transportation. You may find someone else to use your
tickets if you wish. Thank you for your understanding.

Uff-da: Lefse FUN!
Pumpkin Glass Mosaic
Instructor: DeLoyne Nelson & Eleen Olson
Uff-Da! It’s lefse time. This popular class
is back! Scandinavian Heritage or not, join
us for some fun as we make up a batch of
potato lefse. Roll, bake and sample one of
the great traditions of this time of year.
Plus, go home with a recipe to make more on your own. Don’t
forget your container to bring some home.

Do you love a nice plate of goodies on
your holiday table? Join us at this class
and bake up a variety of goodies with a
fun group of friends. It’s easy and stressfree when someone else does the
shopping, prep and clean-up. Class participants will pay Anna
Brown for the ingredients the night of the class. Don’t forget
your containers to bring all your goodies home!

Have you ever wanted to try painting and
don’t know where to start? Grab a friend and
join us as Wanda walks you through step-bystep to create your own 11” x 14” canvas
masterpiece. We’ll provide all the supplies
you need, appetizer bites and a glass of wine. Ella Marie’s will
have additional wine and coffee available for purchase. All you
need to bring is yourself, your creativity and some friends! (Of
course, men are invited too!) We have 2 upcoming classes!

involved, you must pay at the time of registration and no
refunds or credit will be given if you cancel with fewer than 3

Recycled Wine Bottle Bird Feeder

Enjoy feeding the humming birds all
summer or the regular birds in the winter
with a wine bottle birdfeeder you made
yourself! (No, you aren’t feeding the birds
wine.) You could also make it and give it to
a loved-one for the holidays! Adorned with copper and glass
beads, those birds are sure to appreciate your craftiness!

Active Supervision: Emergency Situations
Instructor: Sue Heisler, Child Care Aware
This class meets the Family Child Care provider annual
supervision training requirement. This training curriculum will
address best practices of active supervision in a family child
care setting. This training curriculum will discuss possible
emergency situations in a home child care setting; describe
ways to respond to emergency situations as the only adult
present in the home; identify tools that can help providers find
out about and respond to a disaster/emergency situation in
progress.

Autism: Including Children with Social,
Communication and Behavioral Needs
Mother & Son “Night of Fun”
Instructor: Sue Heisler, Child Care Aware
This workshop will explore the key characteristics of Autism
Spectrum Disorder and give early childhood practitioners tools
to more effectively include a child with Autism in their child
care setting. Included in this interactive workshop are myths
and facts about Autism as well as practical strategies and tips
for inclusion.

favorite t-shirt” – not fancy. Come spend a night with your
friends and that lady that’s always there for you. We’ll have a
“make your own trail mix” snack station along with Gatorade
and water. Specifics will be on an invitation sent home through
school.

done all in one spot! We’ll have all your favorite vendors along
with some beautiful homemade crafts. Come see what you can
find! A community group will be selling lunch as well. Come
support the vendors & crafters in your community. Contact

Lantern-Lit Fall Family Hike & Children’s Activities
Itasca State Park, Jacob V. Brower Visitor Center
Join us on a fall trip to Itasca! The theme of this year’s lantern
lit hike is “Exploring Itasca’s Birds”. Guides with lanterns will
lead us down the kerosene lantern-lit trail to meet characters
that will share stories about special birds that call Itasca home.
This family-friendly group hike lasts about 30 minutes and are
suitable for all ages. Other activities such as music and
children’s activities will also be ongoing during our time at
Itasca. We’ll all arrive together, but the activities are “go at
your own pace and interest”. Children must be accompanied
by an adult. Remember to pack your own snacks/beverages.

SAVE THE DATE! Girls, it’s time to pull out your
prettiest dress and tell that big guy in your life to
dress up too! Join us in the High School Theater
for a sweetheart themed evening with your big
sweetie. Dress code for this event is your fanciest
dress. Specifics will be on an invitation sent home through

Free Outdoor Movie – “Farewell” to Summer
Summer is almost over!! Boo hoo! End it on
a high note with friends and family and
enjoy a free movie under the stars! First –
come out and cheer for the RAIDER
FOOTBALL team vs. Mahnomen at their first
home game and then stay for a movie! We’ve got a big screen
with even bigger sound. Bring your own chairs, blankets and
bug spray. Concessions will be available from a local
organization.

Indoor Walking at LPA Schools
LPA Head Start/Early Head Start
Walk inside at either the Elementary in Audubon or the High
School in Lake Park on days when school is in session. Walking
is open from 7:00-8:00 am and 3:30-4:30 pm. Please contact

Youth ATV Classroom Training

This course is required for youth ages 12-16 that use public
land to ride ATV’s. This classroom training may be taken by
anyone 11 years of age but the certificate is not valid until they

A wonderful preschool experience for children
ages 3 1/2 to 5 years old, with parent participation
in special events throughout the school year.
First priority is given to children entering Kindergarten
the following year.
Children with special needs are encouraged to attend
beginning at 3 1/2 years old.
