Framework Training Presentation

Framework Training:
Make it Matter
TECH COACH ACADEMY
CHELSY HOOPER, JULIE KING
Why Use Frameworks?
• Not unique to education; having common definitions of practice helps
develop good standards of practice
• Shows professionalism; common understanding
• Can help a new teacher effectively plan, or fine-tune a veteran teacher
• Having a road map to navigate the complexity of teaching can help
• As a tech coach, frameworks can help provide shared understanding of
the lesson or unit with the teacher or teachers you are working with
• Can serve to clarify students’ learning and lesson objectives, activities,
and assessment and increase teacher effectiveness

ASCD rubric for Effective Teacher Technology Use
Develop base skills expectations for your school
Consider the ISTE standards for coaches- how do you stack up? Where can you improve?
Are there base skills expected by your teachers? Do you have a tech orientation for new
teachers or presentations for current teachers to update their skills?
Technology Curriculum Mapping
•
•
•
•
•
•
Can be challenging when there is only integration, no explicit technology classes
Working with department chairs
Working with curriculum director
Scope and sequence
Internal documentation
Tools to use: Google Docs/ Sheets/ Sites; paid options:
http://www.curriculum21.com/pd/curriculum-mapping/archives/technology/
Consider your tech scope and sequence- do you have one? Does it need to
be revised? Do you have internal documentation to help support yourself or
a new hire?
Coordination with Content Area Curriculum
•

•
•
Working with teachers, librarian
Familiarity with flow of the year
Develop classroom tools portfolio
Be present
Consider the flow of your school year, jot down a few major projects you already
know about that would be enhanced with tech (advance organizer), ID the
contacts for those projects, or consider brainstorming new projects and think
about how to pitch them to faculty
Understanding Instructional Frameworks
Spiraling
Bloom’s Taxonomy
Rigor Relevance Framework
Scope and sequence
ADDIE type design skills

Common Instructional Frameworks ex: writing
across the curriculum
Also be familiar with basic instructional theories

Practice
Consider several ed tech lesson plan samples and determine where on SAMR they
would fall or which ed tech framework would apply best
