Daily Roundups, 2008-09 Week of Oct. 27, 2008 10/31/08 Football The Freshman team beat Avon yesterday, 44-14, bringing their record to 6-1. Scoring for the Indians were Aaron Wilson, Tyler Calitri, David Blackwell, and Kywane Thomas. The rest of the team played very well. The next Freshman game is against Enfield on Thursday at Northwest. The Varsity Football team plays on Saturday against Bridgeport Central in a game you won't want to miss. 10/30/08 Volleyball Yesterday, the Freshman Volleyball team won a great game in three against Miss Porter's. The entire team played well, ending their season with a 6-4 record. Field Hockey The Field Hockey team lost to Mercy High School yesterday, 2-1. Catherine Hijeck '09 scored the only goal. Laura Hannifan '09 and Ali Gualteri '09 played very well. JV Field Hockey tied with a score of 1-1. Kate Sullivan '10 scored the goal while everyone else played very well. 10/29/08 Volleyball Last night, the Varsity Volleyball team shut out St. Paul Catholic, 3-0 -- an especially sweet victory, since it was Senior Night. Maura Eagan '09 had 12 digs, leading an entire team that played well. The Freshman team has its last game of the season today against Miss Porter's School. 10/28/08 Boys' Soccer Yesterday, Boys' JV soccer shut out St. Paul, 8-0. Connor Deneen '10 had an amazing game, with four goals; the other goals were scored by Stephen Kozak '12, Merritt McDonough '12, and Jack Ferrell '12. The Boys' Varsity team won 1-0; Zack Boorman '10 scored the goal. Girls' Soccer Girls' Soccer also shut out St. Paul yesterday, on Senior Day, with a score of 7-0. Scoring for the Indians were Lauren Backhaus '11 with 2, Shealagh Begley '09, Maddie Domingo '12, Mary Beckerman '10, Megan Drusedum '09, and Mary Frailey '10. Everyone played extremely well. The girls begin States competition next Tuesday. Field Hockey Varsity Field Hockey beat Northwestern yesterday, 3-1. Hannah Rienow '09 had 2 goals and Catherine Hijeck '09 scored 1. JV Field Hockey tied 1-1 with Northwestern, Leanne Oleasz '12 scored the goal. The whole team played very well. 10/27/08 Volleyball NWC's Volleyball team played East Catholic on Friday. The JV team lost a hard game 2-1 with Morgan Green '10 and Audrey Carroll '11 playing well. Varsity played a great game but lost in 4. The whole team played very well. The next game is Senior Night this Tuesday against St. Paul. Girls' Soccer The Girls' Varsity Soccer team lost a tough game to East Catholic last Friday, 1-0. Devon Soucier '10, Mary Beckerman '10, and Morgan Mencio '12 all played well. Boys' Soccer The Boys' Soccer team played East Catholic at home last Friday. JV tied 1-1, with Ben Paine '10 scoring the goal. Varsity also played very well, but lost 2-1, with the goal scored by Jordan Daniel. Cross Country The Girls' Cross Country team finished their season at the Class SS State Meet on Saturday. Running well for Northwest were Christine Smith '10, Kylie Steadman '09, Kelly Yorio '11, Alli Denton '12, Katherine Schwartz '12, Kathleen Connelly '12, and Caroline Garger '10. The Boys' Cross Country team finished sixth out of 24 teams. Leading the way for Northwest were Nico Greco '10 in 8th place, John Whiting '09 in 17th, and Eric Kennedy '10 in 20th. Luke Pelton '10, Mike Bonfatto '09, Brian Poirier '12, and Jack Peterson '12 also ran well. Nico Greco '10 earned All-State Honors and will compete in the State Open this Friday.
