YMCA of Greenville 3-5 T-Ball Rules YMCA Mission Statement: The YMCA of Greenville, following the example of Christ, promotes healthy spirit, mind and body for all. General Guidelines The YMCA’s youth t-ball program is designed for ages 3 to 5 with teams consisting of both boys and girls. Each team will have a minimum of 7 players and a maximum of 10. Substitutions o 10 defensive players are allowed on the field at a time. o To insure that all players participate in a least 1/2 of every game, no player may sit out 2 innings in a row, and no player may sit out a second inning until all players have sat out at least one. o Every child on the team will get to bat each inning with the batting order being continuous. After each child has had a turn to hit, the teams will switch. Duration of Games o The game time allotted will be 1½ hours with both teams warming up/practicing for 20 – 30 minutes before each game. (Included in allotted time) o Once the game begins, it will consist of 4 innings of play or 60 minutes game time. o After the appropriate time limit has expired a new inning of play may not begin. o If an inning is in progress when the appropriate time has been reached, it will be completed. Coaches' Duties o Please keep players from behind batter; sitting along designated sideline when waiting to hit. o Make sure each batter is taking their correct turn at bat and that every child receives equal playing time in the field. o After 3 unsuccessful swings by a player; help swing through in the correct motion in order to make contact with the ball. o Both coaches will serve as umpires in order to help the game progress as needed. o Teams listed first on the schedules are the home team and will lead the opening prayer. This team will also bat last. Equipment o Rubber cleats or tennis shoes only; no metal cleats! o Bats and helmets are provided by the YMCA, but players may use their own equipment. o Bases and the tee will also be provided by the YMCA. Game Specifics/Field Dimensions Bases will be placed 40 feet apart. Pitcher must be on pitcher's mark when ball is struck. 10 ft. circle around home plate. o If the ball is legally struck and does not go outside the 10 ft. circle, into fair territory, the batter will get another try. If a batter throws the bat outside the 10 ft. circle, he/she will be warned. On the second warning the player will be penalized by an automatic out being assessed to his/her team. Positions o Infielders 1st baseman 3rd baseman 2nd baseman pitcher short stop middle fielder (play behind pitcher near 2nd) o Outfielders 1 left fielder 1 left center 1 right fielder 1 right center A player cannot play pitcher and 1st baseman in consecutive innings No player can play any position more than 1 inning per game (rotate all). Rotate outfielders/infielders equally throughout the game and season. Adults may be base coaches upon approval from Coaches. Pitcher must throw the ball to 1st base for an out. No unassisted outs by the pitcher o No lead offs, and no steals. o Coaches may stand on the field during play, as long as they are not hindering or slowing the flow of the game. 3 coaches/helpers may be on the field for the defensive team (1 in the infield and 2 in the outfield). Batter and runners must wear a helmet. Bunting is PROHIBITED. No infield fly rule. Ball is considered dead when the ball is returned to the pitcher or an infielder and that player raises the ball above their head. The infielder must be in the infield area. If a runner is halfway or more than halfway to a base when the ball is returned to an infielder, he/she may advance to the base he/she was heading toward. o o o o o YMCA of Greenville 6/7 Super T-Ball Rules YMCA Mission Statement: The YMCA of Greenville, following the example of Christ, promotes healthy spirit, mind and body for all. Please be courteous of the next team when your game time has ended. Entire team bats through the lineup, but outs will be enforced. A defensive player plays beside adult pitcher and makes plays the pitcher would. o If the adult pitcher interferes with the play, the ball automatically becomes dead, all base runners return to their last occupied base, and the pitch count reverts back to before the pitch. o Each batter will receive up to 3 pitches. If they fail to hit the ball into play by the third pitch, they will be given three attempts to hit the ball from a tee. A foul ball on the 3rd swing from the tee is an out. Batter and runners must wear a helmet. Bunting is PROHIBITED. No leading off base. Base runners must remain in contact with the base until the batter hits the ball. o o o o YMCA of Greenville 8/9 Coaches-Pitch Baseball/Softball Rules YMCA Mission Statement: The YMCA of Greenville, following the example of Christ, promotes healthy spirit, mind and body for all. General Guidelines The YMCA’s Coach Pitch program is designed for ages 8 and 9 with teams consisting of either boys or girls. Each team will have a minimum of 10 players and a maximum of 14. Substitutions o To insure that all players participate at least 1/2 of every game, no player may sit out 2 innings in a row, and no player may sit out a second inning until all players have sat out at least one. o The batting order will be continuous and will consist of every player's name. No changing the batting order. Duration of Games o Coach Pitch-5 innings or 75 minutes game time. o After one hour has expired, a new inning of play may not begin. o If an inning is in progress when the appropriate time has been reached, it will be completed. o The umpire's or supervisor's watch will be the official time clock. Five runs or 3 outs per inning is in effect for all divisions. Coaches' Duties o Please keep players off the backstops. o No coaches or spectators are allowed directly behind the backstops. o Defensive line-ups will be made available upon request. o A volunteer from each team will serve as official bookkeeper. They will make sure each batter is taking their correct turn at bat. o Teams listed first on the schedules are the home team and will lead the opening prayer. This team will also bat last. Equipment o Rubber cleats or tennis shoes only; no metal cleats. o Players may use their own personal equipment in an official game. Game Specifics/Field Dimensions Bases are at 60 ft. Pitcher must be on pitcher's mark until ball is struck. 10 ft. circle around home plate o If a batter throws the bat, he/she will be warned. On the second warning the player will be penalized by an automatic out being assessed to his/her team. One base will be awarded to the base runner on an overthrow (out of bounds). No player may automatically be awarded home plate on an overthrow. Runners less than halfway to a base must return to their last base. Runners over halfway may advance to that base. Play will stop (dead ball) when an infielder has thrown the ball to the pitcher or the coach who is pitching. Runners may advance at risk of being put out, one base on an overthrow. If a second overthrow occurs in attempting to throw a runner out, the ball becomes dead; therefore the runner may not advance a second base. Positions- at least 9 players on the field, 10 at the max o Infielders 1st baseman 3rd baseman 2nd baseman pitcher short stop catcher o Outfielders 1 left fielder 1 right fielder 1 center fielder 1 rover (if needed) o A player cannot play pitcher and 1st baseman in the same game. o No player can play any position more than 2 innings per game (rotate all). o Rotate outfielders/infielders equally throughout the game and season. o Base coaches must be adults. o Only coach pitching may be on the field with the players. A defensive player plays beside adult pitcher and makes all plays the pitcher would. o If the adult pitcher interferes with the play, the ball automatically becomes dead, all base runners return to their last occupied base, and the pitch count reverts back to before the pitch o Each batter will receive up to 5 pitches. If they fail to hit the ball into play by the last “good” pitch, they are out. A foul ball on the 5th pitch is an out Batter and runners must wear a helmet. No leading off base. Base runners must remain in contact with the base until the batter hits the ball. If the runner leaves the base too soon, she will be called out Players may slide into base when it is not a force out and it is a close play at the base. YMCA of Greenville 10-14 Girls Player-Pitch Softball Rules YMCA Mission Statement: The YMCA of Greenville, following the example of Christ, promotes healthy spirit, mind and body for all. General Guidelines The game will begin with a team prayer lead by the home team, which is the first team on the schedule. This is fast pitch softball. 10 Players on the field at a time Infielders 1st baseman 3rd baseman 2nd baseman pitcher Short stop catcher Outfielders 1 left center fielder 1 right center fielder 1 left fielder 1 right fielder A game shall consist of 6 innings or 1 hour and 30 minutes whichever comes first. No new inning may begin after 1 hour and 15 minutes of playing time. The home team will not bat in the bottom of the last inning if they are winning. The 10-run rule is in effect after the 4th inning. A team’s at bat will end after 3 outs or 5 runs have been scored. In case of bad weather the game will be complete after 3 ½ innings if the home team is winning. Game Specifics/Field Dimensions Baselines are 60 feet. Pitching distance is 40 feet. All players must play a minimum of 3 innings. o Substitute players entering a game must substitute for a player who had not already sat out of the game. A pitcher can pitch no more than four innings in one game and no more than nine innings in one calendar week. The pitcher must rest 40 hours before pitching in the next game. A starting pitcher can return to the mound once in the game provided they have not reached their 4-inning limit. One pitch in an inning constitutes and inning. o Two trips per game to the mound per pitcher. On the second trip the pitcher must be removed. A visit due to an injury does not constitute a trip to the mound. o The balk rule is not in effect. A game that ends in tie remains a tie. No extra innings! Baseline coaches must be adults. Infield fly rule is in effect. Catchers must wear appropriate gear. The ball is live on overthrows unless it reaches a dead ball area. Once the ball is dead a runner may only advance one base. No designated hitters. Bunting is permitted. Batting helmets must be worn at all times while batting and on base. Metal cleats ARE NOT allowed. No stealing. Runners must remain on base until the ball is hit. Runners must tag on a fly ball. o A runner may advance 1 base per passed balls or wild pitches. Runners can slide into a base if there is not a force or if it is going to be a close play. The batting roster will consist of all players present for the game.
